Grab your long johns and get ready for the Solstice Biking Challenge

Solstice Cycling Challenge

It’s time to challenge yourself this winter. How many days can you ride to work? There will be snow, there will be cold rain, and there will be ice. But take comfort in the fact that you’re not alone. Many other riders will join you on the roads. Encourage others to push themselves to put away the car keys and put on warm cycling clothes. Everyone is invited to be a part of this.

To motivate you, we’ll meet up once a month to give out prizes and swap war stories. Warm smiles and cold beer will help make the morning commute a little easier. Warning : too many beers will make the morning commute very unfun.

For those of you that are serious about riding to work, really serious, there’s a competition growing out of the Venture Outdoors office for bragging rights….and some cold hard cash. It’s easy. Everyone puts in $20 and the rider that commutes to work the most often from December 21st through March 20th will take home half the cash. The other half will go for prizes and parties along the way. We’ll go on straight percentages. Ride to work four out of five days and you’re at 80%. (note: Steve Patchan has stated numerous times that he will ride to work 100% of the time) You’ll also want to keep track of mileage each month and send it my way, as we’ll crown the mileage champ after the spring solstice.

You don’t have to put down cash to be a part of the fun. Just email me your info: Name, Work Address, Home Address, and your place of work. Spread the word along with holiday cheer. If you want to be part of the $$ competition, drop the money off at VO’s office, 304 Forbes Ave, 15222.

Everyone: At the end of each month, email me the number of days you worked, the number of days you rode, and the total mileage for that month.

Encourage everyone you know to try commuting to work this winter. It’s worth it.
