With planning, winter bicycling needn’t be a roadside nightmare

You’ve made the decision. You’re going to continue bicycling through the winter. In fact, you’re going to bike to and from work.

What do you need to do to prepare your bike before pedaling into less than optimal weather conditions for the next four months?

To answer that question, I called on guys who ride a bike to work year-round: Evan Perrone, 26, a sales representative at Dirty Harry’s Bicycles in Verona; Jordan Villella, 27, a master bike mechanic at REI-South Side; and Jeff Kuchma, 38, the manager of the Trek of Pittsburgh shop in Shadyside.

A good lighting system, especially for daily commuters, was their unanimous first recommendation.
