Here are the August 9 events for BikeFest 2012.

Share the Road East!

Thu, August 9, 2pm – 4pm

Frick Park Tennis Courts, Braddock Ave. ( Regent Square)

Starting from Regent Square, enjoy a 30ish mile road ride through townships and boroughs east of Pittsburgh. Rain cancels. Helmet, water, brakes required (gears a really, really good idea). Contact Mike Boyd at mboyd50@gmail.com for more information.


Findlay Twp Ride

Thu, August 9, 6:00pm – 8:30pm

Findlay Township Activity Center, 310 Main Street, Imperial, PA 15126

Ride Leader: Lance Letterio (Lance_Letterio@comcast.net, 412-787-2348). This NO DROP ride will start at the Findlay Township Community Center, 310 Main Street, Imperial, PA 15126. Ride consists of low traffic roads, mostly level with several hills. Distance of ride will increase with length of days & then speed will increase as days shorten. WE WILL NOT RIDE IN THE RAIN OR SNOW. Directions: From the North, East and South, take I-79 to the Parkway West (Rt. 22/30 West)(Note: For the Northerners, exit at Rt. 60, bear right and follow Rt. 60 until it becomes Rt. 22/30 in Robinson Twp.), exit at Rt. 30 West, Imperial Exit, turn right, go straight through light at major intersection, staying on Rt. 30 West for approximately 1 mile, turn right on Santiago Road, go 200 feet, turn right on Main Street, go approximately .2 mile and look for train caboose on right. Office of Public Art Northside Bike Tour

Thu, August 9, 6pm – 8pm

At the Carnegie Science Center at Langley Observatory Clock

The Office of Public Art invites cyclists for a public art tour on the Northside. This easy, mostly flat ride will begin next to the Carnegie Science Center at Langley Observatory Clock, a sculpture by R.M. Fisher, and continue past the memorials on the Northshore, with a visit to Allegheny Landing to discuss the conservation of the park’s sculptures. Riders will continue to the Children’s Museum to visit a variety of contemporary and historic artworks, and then ride to Sampsonia Way to see the “”house poems”” created by City of Asylum Pittsburgh and installations by the Mattress Factory. The tour will loop back to the Science Center. Bring a picnic to eat along the river after the ride. The hour and a half tour will include trail and street components and have several stops. Beginner Bike Ride 1

Thu, August 9, 6:00pm – 7:30pm

Millvale Riverfront Park

Learn the basics of bicycling with this introductory class. During this first session, we’ll spend the a half hour learning the basic parts of a bike and how they interact, and then we’ll learn to ride as a group along Pittsburgh’s Riverfront Trails. We’ll travel 6 miles on this outing. You can sign up for a discounted month-long series or sign up for the class that fits your schedule. During each class we’ll build our knowledge and the distance we ride. Sign up for the four session series, choose the July or August Series. Cost: $18.00 non-member / $12.00 member Bike rentals not included in the fee. Women’s Mountain Bike Clinic

OTB / Grupetto Pittsburgh Ride

A continuation of the Thursday night rides. Ride starts promptly at 6:15, helmets required. Après bike will be at OTB. Pittsburgh Hash House Harriers BikeFest Bash

Turkey and Eagle trails (Level one and level 3 respectively) Hare and Hound trail on bikes: We will be riding on streets and trails, probably 7-12 miles. Helmets and lights are required. You will need money on trail for beverage stops and may need money at the end of trail for food. Get ready for BikeFest, a fifteen-day celebration of bicycling, August 5th-19th. The activities kick off with Pedal Pittsburgh on August 5th’ which includes a car-free section and a finish line festival. On August 10th the Bike Fest Party returns to the Pittsburgh Opera in the Strip District.
