Biking and Walking are Best Bets During Bridge Project

The South Highland Ave Bridge that spans the East Busway and connects Shadyside to East Liberty will be offline for about six months starting Monday, March 4, 2013 for replacement. The bridge is currently listed as both “structurally deficient” and “functionally obsolete.”

During this time it will be much easier to connect to your destination in the part of town by foot or by bike.  We recommend taking the pedestrian bridge that connects the upper deck of the Eastside development near Trek of Pittsburgh to Ellsworth to Spahr to Alder to S. Highland. There’s now lots of bike parking on S. Highland thanks to a new bike corral in front of Mad Mex. Here is a map of the alternative route.
