PGH Biz Times: URA seeks $1.7M largely for bike infrastructure for Almono site

It may be the biggest budget request yet for bike infrastructure in Pittsburgh.

According to the latest agenda for Thursday’s board meeting of the Urban Redevelopment Authority, the board will vote on entering an agreement for the city to pursue a grant of up to $1.7 million for “a bicycle cycle-track, trail facilities and placemaking storm water features” through the PennDOT Transportation Alternative Program.

The foundation-owned Almono site is a 178-acre former mill site overseen by the Regional Industrial Development Corporation of Southwestern Pennsylvania, which is currently preparing the brownfield property for new mixed-use development, with new vertical construction expected to being late this year or in 2015.
