Make it a party!

On May 31st, June 28th and July 26th, BikePGH and the OpenStreetsPGH committee will be opening up 3.5 miles of Penn Ave and Butler Street to get neighbors moving and having fun in the summer’s newest program:

OpenStreetsPGH.

It is going to be amazing.

From Downtown to Lawrenceville, people will be able to walk, ride bikes, dance, shop, or even take a group yoga class. Everyone is welcome. We need your help to keep things safe and fun.

While the OpenStreetsPGH route will be closed to auto traffic, there will be several intersections where cars are allowed to cross. Police will do the heavy lifting making sure that cars obey the rules. BikePGH would like to deputize you to help pedestrians cross the road and make sure OpenStreetsPGH runs as smoothly and safely as possible.

Time commitmentSheriffs will report for duty at 7 AM sharp and clock out at noon. All volunteer sheriffs will meet at a program hub in Downton, Lawrenceville, or the Strip, and then head out in groups to their intersections.

Sheriffs will:

  • Help Pedestrians cross the road
  • Keep OpenStreetsPGH safe for families
  • Give out free High Fives.
  • Ring cow bells *
  • Wear funny hats*

*optional

Benefits: For your time you will receive:
  • A free OpenStreetsPGH volunteer t-shirt
  • Water and Snacks
