On Monday, October 26th Henry Walker and Carol Williamson were killed in a tragic crash at the wide and dangerous intersection of University Place, Aliquippa St and Centre Ave – the border of the North Oakland and Upper Hill neighborhoods – while attempting to cross the street. In response to this tragedy a candlelight vigil has been planned for 5pm on Thursday, October 29th at the site of the crash. The event hopes to create a space for people to grieve and for the loss of Henry and Carol and to call for safer streets in Oakland and across Pittsburgh.

These three deaths on Oakland streets within four days have saddened, frightened, and angered thousands of people across Pittsburgh who believe that it is tragic and senseless to lose innocent lives to largely preventable crashes.

The vigil has been organized by partnering organization Bike Pittsburgh, Hill District Consensus Group and Oakland Planning and Development Corporation.
