Our First Ladies-Only Confident Class: Great for Newbies and Veterans Alike

By Ngani Ndimbie, communications manager
On Sunday, April 3rd we’ll be debuting the first Confident City Cycling Class of this year AND it will be our first women only class, led by phenomenal League Certified Instructors Julie Mallis and Karen Brooks. Sign up today!

The class will be the feature of an optional second day of the Pittsburgh Women and Biking Forum, to be held on Saturday, April 2nd.

It’s a three-hour, on-the-bike course that’s great for both newbie and experienced cyclist alike. Honing in on the important skills needed for riding in an urban setting, the class includes lane positioning, signaling in traffic, and how to conquer hills.

Trust me, it’s a fantastic experience. I attended our inaugural Confident City Cycling Class in 2014 with the expectation of just taking photos, getting some first hand information to be used in a press release, and cheering on my colleague Dan.

Instead, I learned. A lot.

Understanding the key fundamental safety skills of riding was the most valuable part for me, personally: the Quick Stop, Rock Dodge, and Instant Turn. I’d basically inferred all of the skills through many years of bike commuting, but I cannot express how reassuring it was to know that I had mastered the necessary competencies.

Join the Women & Biking Forum weekend and take part in the class. If you have questions about this or any other part of the work contact Julie our education manager, julie@bikepgh.org.
