Traffic Alert for OpenStreetsPGH this Sunday, July 31

An estimated 20,000 bicyclists, pedestrians, rollerbladers, and skateboarders  will take to Pittsburgh’s streets this Sunday, July 31th for OpenStreetsPGH. Participants will enjoy the car-free streets of West End, Northside and Downtown from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Car traffic will be prohibited on a 3.0 mile stretch of  6th St, Federal St, Western Ave and Main St.

For the first time, the route includes a traffic closure the West End Bridge.  To alert drivers, Bike Pittsburgh, the organization that coordinates the event, has issued the following traffic advisory.

TRAFFIC ADVISORY

Streets will begin closing Sunday at 8 a.m. The following streets will be impacted so plan ahead and leave earlier for your destination if in the vicinity of the OpenStreetsPGH route:

  • Market Street from Market Square to Liberty Ave.
  • 6th Street from Liberty to Ft. Duquesne Blvd.
  • Federal Street to S. Commons.
  • West Commons.
  • Western Ave from West Commons to the West End Bridge
  • The West End Bridge
  • Stuben St from Sanctus to W. Carson St.
  • Main Street in the West End Village

There are ten intersections along the route where motorized vehicles CAN cross the route.

Traffic crossing intersections:

  • Market St. and Fifth Ave.
  • 6th St. and Liberty Ave.
  • 6th St and Ft. Duq. Blvd.
  • Federal St and E. General Robinson St.
  • Federal St and Reedsdale St.
  • Western Ave and Brighton Rd
  • Western Ave and Allegheny Ave
  • Western Ave and Fulton.
  • West End Bridge and Rt 51.
  • Main and Sanctus St
PARKING RESTRICTIONS 

Cars parked along the route must be moved before 5 a.m. on Sunday morning, July 31, or they will be towed. No parking signs will be placed along the route on Friday.
