When I moved to Pittsburgh 2 years ago for school, the first thing I did was join bike-pgh. After a year, I sold my car and went completely car free, having found that I could easily use my bike for everything. I’ve recently moved away from Pittsburgh for a job. Aside from my close friends, what I will miss most about Pittsburgh is this organization. Although I biked every day, I’ve probably only met a few of you guys personally at the handful of rides and volunteer events I’ve been a part of. Otherwise, I’ve found this message board to be a great resource. I’ll now be joining the SFBC, but I’m sad to see that they do not have the same kind of online message board, so I may pop back here from time to time. Anyway, I just wanted to say thanks to all of you here and to all the staff at bike-pgh! And I’d like to give a special thanks to flyS564 who gave me a spare shifter cable at midnight over memorial day weekend, the night before I biked to DC. Also, thanks to Lou Fineberg for the company and conversation on day 4 of my trip.

I made it!

I’m in Chicago. The Chainlink has forums, but I still spend most of my time here… not that I recommend that, since I’m always sad that I can’t join this or that ride except when I’m in Pgh visiting family. I agree with you, the BikePgh community rocks!

Safe travels and good luck at your new home!

sorry to see you go, brybot. but you’ll find good people in SF. And, as demonstrated by drewbacca, dwillen and others, you don’t HAVE to be in the ‘burgh to hang out here.

good luck to you!

Brybot what a journey! I guess you must have made your way to New Brunswick? Good Luck out in SF.

@brybot, I’m glad you enjoyed your time in the ‘Burgh. While I don’t think I’ve met you IRL, thanks for being part of our community.

After you settle into your new city it would be cool to know how Pgh & SF compare from a bike seat’s perspective, so please stay in touch.

@brybot — Just a thank you for being thoughtful and gracious enough to let everyone on the boards know you had left. In the past I have seen people just disappear and folks on the board never know what happened to them. They have probably told their acquaintances in the bike community they were leaving, but the rest of us are left wondering.

I’m glad you enjoyed your time in Pittsburgh. It is really a great city to be in, even if a lot of people still don’t realize it.

And good luck in the future with your new job and new life in SF.

Feel free to keep playing the Wheelset of Fortune game. You can do that from anywhere, and it’d give us a chance to see what things look like in SF.

Yes, please do this. I think a thread about riding in other cities would be a lot of fun. Bonus points for video!

You know, I honestly never thought of that…

Thanks for the kind note, brybot. I’m so glad our organization/our work left a positive impression on you and that you found a friendly community on our forums.

We’re good friends with the folks at SFBC. We’ve learned a lot from them and generally look up to them. They’re one of the best bike advocacy orgs in the United States so you’ll be represented well. Have a great life in San Francisco and stay in touch!

Au revoir,
Scott

Good luck with the new job and the new city @brybot. I think your participation here would be missed so I’ll second the above recommendations that you keep using the board and let us know how you’re doing. I think Stu’s suggestion of playing WOF is a great idea!
