University Police and Housing Facilities Management Services will be removing abandoned bicycles from the bicycle racks at all residence halls on the Pittsburgh campus on Thursday, June 27. University Police identified and tagged abandoned bikes for removal this past Friday, June 21.
Abandoned bikes are those that are in poor condition from not being used. They are identified by features that include, but not limited to, two flat tires, missing major parts, frozen brakes and/or rusted chains.
Tagged bikes, bike parts, and locks will be removed June 27. Those that are deemed to be operational will be stored on campus for six months. Owners seeking to claim their bikes should contact University Police at 412-268-2323. Non-operational bikes and bike parts will be donated to Free Ride, http://freeridepgh.org/donate/bikes-and-parts/.
A separate round-up of abandoned bicycles that are parked at campus academic and administration building bike racks will be scheduled for early July.
