My friend just had her bike stolen less than an hour ago. She said a co-worker saw a girl walking it up 5th ave near wood st.

I grabbed these photos from her facebook, she reported it to the police as soon as it happened. It’s an older purple schwinn girl’s frame, single speed, blue deep V 1/8 inch wheelset. If anybody finds it, please contact her:

Thanks.

Wow, distinctive. That should help.

I’ll keep my eyes open.

Good luck!

That is one super cute bike. and very distinctive. I can’t imagine someone wouldn’t see it. I’ll keep an eye out in the East End.

Dana, it might be worth talking to your friends about proper bike locking technique :P

Locking to itself is not a theft deterrent

Pierce, It was not dana’s fault my bike got stolen. It was my own silly fault for not locking it up in the first place. I will now make sure to properly lock it and not trust the public. Lesson learned.

Harmos; I know it was not her fault

It was a joke because several of her friends bikes have been stolen (at least two anyways)

Some of my friends bikes have been stolen too. We can all remind all our friends to properly lock our bikes

Through the rack.
Through the frame.
Through the wheel.
Test the lock.
Smile and walk away.

Repeat.

Glad to hear we had a quick recovery :) Thanks to bike-pgh for the bike-pics and serial number registration. Now, should I bring each one of my bikes down there I can get them all photographed?

Great article!

Feel free to let Rebecca know that Chicago has a similar system now in place. http://chicago.stolenbike.org/register-with-Bike-Shepherd :)
