Hello. I’m very new to Pittsburgh. I was wondering if any one rides a dutch bike on these boards? I still have mine boxed up since moving back from Europe but when I get settled and the weather is a bit better I was going to get it put together and start my first rides. I’m relatively new to biking again after 10 years without riding. My dutch bike has 8-gears and I know a lot of people who ride with hills, but the city sure looks intimidating to ride when you first get here. Anyhow, just a friendly hello.

I think it depends on what you consider a Dutch bike. I have a Schwinn Speedster that I used to ride around the city. I customized the gearing to make it practical for Pittsburgh. The bottom gear is ~40 gear inches, and the top is about
70 gear inches. Your 8-speed probably has lower gears than that, so don’t be intimidated by the ‘Burgh.

Also, idk where you live, but Biketek in Squirrel Hill specializes in citybikes.

I wanted to buy a gazelle or batavus and ship it back here but i settled for a breezer uptown infinity which is a dutch bike in spirit. It does have a pretty nice gear range (360%) which makes it practical for the hills although it is awful heavy. Anyways – welcome!

@ Salty breezer uptown infinity

Cool looking bike!

How is that bike? In particular how well does the “Continuously variable planetary” hub work? Easy to shift? etc

Oh just for information, I own a Workcycles Secret Service model with Rear coaster and Front roller-brakes with frame mounted front carrier.
