Sorry for the delayed in introduction everybody, I’m still learning the site/navigation

Name: Shay

How I get money: I’m a PCT for UPMC Montefiore and work at a taxi place as a call taker. Super lucrative stuff..

Neighborhood: I live in Bellevue but can be found scattered across the triangle. Typically downtown, east, south side, around home, or wherever the next tag takes me lol.

Type of riding: Well right now recreational, I’m hoping to increase insurance and speed so I can do commuting also.

# of bikes you own: 2, though one is my fixer upper/ learning to do things bike that needs A LOT of TLC.. Baha.

Music that you are listening to (or stuck in your head) right this second: breaking ties-ocean lab

Fav picture of you on a bike (optional): I don’t have one. My shirt T-Rex arms fail me in this situation and I’m in strong need of biking buddies. Not only for taking pictures, but that could be a perk :P

A little about me- I love cats. And animals in general. I frequently halt all activities to pet random animals that don’t belong to me. I love learning and ask a lot of questions. I’m really really shy. Hard to believe huh?

Here is a picture of my brep brep.

@ Mick – Those are the Brenta Dolomites surrounding Trento. I stayed far far away from them, but they are apparently a famous biking destination.

just curious, how did you end up riding a bike around Trento, Italy. I guess i’m more wondering how you chose that area to ride bikes in, or did the area choose you? looks awesome

Finally decided to get back on the board here after my account got deleted in the big make over. This definitely fits into the “long-overdue” column, as I never posted on this thread last time around, but a fresh start deserves a fresh introduction. Hi.

# of Bikes: I’ve got two functioning at the moment. Cannondale Synapse for the road and a Fuji Reveal for in the woods.

Yeah another soutHILLer!

If you are nervous riding in the city, come to a flock ride – usually 3rd friday of month.

I’ll ride around the city to get to places that I can’t get by trail but what I’m really interested in is biking in the South Hills. I see people doing it on West Liberty/Washington Rd. but it seems pretty scary to me. Also, I’d love to get downtown by bike without getting on the T or a bus. What’s the best and easiest way to do it?

StuInMcCandless

The best and easiest, though mildly illegal, is the Wabash Tunnel. For the full story, go to this three-year-old thread, which we keep updated as new info emerges.

Steven

But the Wabash Tunnel dumps you on Saw Mill Run Blvd. Isn’t that horrible for bikes? (Granted, it would be nice if ever the city build a parallel trail from the Wabash to somewhere else.)

StuInMcCandless

Jun 28 2013 at 8:48pm #

I might make a trip out there, ride Wabash, continue straight at the end, go through the bushes to the dead railroad, and walk the bike south/east/upstream until I’m past the scrapyard, then drop back down to Hargrove Street when the dead track joins the live one, remount, and ride to West Liberty. I’ll bring the helmet cam.

I’m beginning to think that “You can’t get there from here.” At least I can’t!

I think that when I want to get to the “other side,” I will do what I normally do and that’s drive to the South Side, park under the Birmingham Bridge and go from there.

Hopefully someone will create an easy, magical way to get downtown from the South Hills.

Welcome all! Erica, don’t discount the convenience of the bus racks. I ride in from Robinson, which from what I am hearing must be easier than the South hills. But having the bus option makes it mentally much easier to ride in knowing that I have that option to bail with the bus and get home. Don’t give up, you can do it!

StuInMcCandless

Private Message

Jun 29 2013 at 8:24pm #

Good point. The bus-bike combo doesn’t even have to get you that close to home. You have a bike! Any bus that gets you through the Mt Washington Transit Tunnel has solved the hardest part of the trip south. Haven’t used a bus rack? This video will prove helpful. Mildly silly, but informative, and only two minutes long.
