Name: Kitaira

Neighborhood: e. lib

Bikes: very tiny trek hybrid with around 4,000 miles on it, ugly bar ends and covered in stickers // a fixie with rainbow Fiks stickers and deep v metallic red rims // orange unicycle that I suck at riding

Type of riding: commute daily, recreational, getting into some distance riding

No music at the moment, got home from rowing and am nearly vegetative with the tv on at the moment.

I suck at putting images online to link to on here. Luckily, someone out up a picture of me in their post…

Picture: here’s me in a unicycle race (I’m on the right):

a very fine evening to you, kitaira! i met you on the neighborhoods ride, and you might remember me from having a completely different bike and saying hi at pedal pittsburgh. or you may not! but i’m glad you finally joined the borg, and i hope you keep putting up those miles, all of which count against cleveland!

I remember! Yeah, I’ve jumped on the bandwagon here… I’ve been slacking on miles since August, but still riding! I want to ride to Cleveland and go across all their bridges!

At the Bike Pgh Annual Meeting earlier this week, I realized that there are STILL people from this board for whom I know only user names, not real names (or occasionally the reverse). So I jumped on the introductions thread to refresh my memory.

The first page or two of introductions was like a reunion with old friends, but old friends who seem to be less visible than they once were.

What’s become of some of the old regulars? Brian J, OhioJeff, Myddrin (still around sometimes, it seems), RoadKillen, Spinballer, the “other Stef….” etc. Did they assume new usernames in the site redesign? Leave the region? Just move on?

I am just curious. It was nice to see all those old names again. It really did seem like I was reconnecting (my memory at least) with old friends. Hope they are all doing well, whereever they may be.

Hmmm, maybe adding our Facebook, Twitter, etc (for those who use them) links would help with usernames vs real names?

Here’s my facebook link: https://www.facebook.com/cspiegler Everyone’s invited to send one of those friend request thingies.

I’m James, I’ve been living in Shadyside for a couple of years now having moved here from the UK. I keep wanting to use my bike for my work commute (it’s only 1.5 miles and I walk it every day) but the motorists here scare the crap out of me!

I will look for a group ride soon, I think. I really need the exercise and I always enjoyed my bike back in Europe.

Welcome, Sully! I think I may have sat next to you on a bus in Oakland a couple nights ago. I was about to get off just as you got on, near the Cathedral of Learning. Brief discussion of snowstorms, as I recall. Glad to meet you!

Born in Altoona, raised in suburbs of Pittsburgh, and I lived in Reading, PA for 2 years with the company I work for now remotely here in Pittsburgh. I didn’t cycle when I lived out there, but there is plenty of beautiful rural farm roads with plenty of good road cycling out in Eastern PA such as Berks and Lancaster County.

I should check this thread more often. Welcome to @bleber! Not that many of us commuting in from McCandless. What path(s) do you take into town? And have we passed one another on the street somewhere? You’ll occasionally see me duking it out with inbound traffic on McKnight, but I’m more often on Babcock (S of Three Degree) or PerryHwy.

@StuInMcCandless: Thanks! I either take the P13 on Ferguson to the E. busway stop at Summerlea St (and bike the remainder to CMU); do the entire ride by bike; or drive. Always trying to do less of the third option. I don’t recall seeing you, but I likely will as I get out more this Spring.

We share the same route from the 40th St Bridge to the corner of Babcock & Thompson Run. I go that way most days it is or has been dry. I have a mud path to traverse on the way to that point, so use Perry those days. I’m often on either an O12 (inbound) or a 12 if the weather is uncooperative. Since I’m starting by the Perry/Perrymont corner, it’s just as easy to bike into West View, so you might not see me at all, but it’s good to know there is at least one more doing a similar commute!
