My name is Jason and I live in Bellevue. I started bike commuting last year and love it !! I also ride recreationally on the weekends & evenings and recently started getting back into mountain biking with a single-speed 29er.

I own four bikes — the Surly, a Cannondale racing bike, a Schwinn Heavy-Duti and a Redline 29er.

Here is a picture of me on my way home on the Friday evening before “snowmagedden.”

^ It is refreshing, however, as the catcalling yokels generally are so spoilt for choice as to what taunts to deploy that they end up slackjawed, saying nothing at all…

There is actually like two photos of me on a bike, all from the ms150 last year, and I can’t find them. This is the next closest thing, a photo of me standing next to my bike with my friend Brian from DC (I’m on the left in the Thick jersey). I credit him with getting me on a bike, I credit all of you wonderful people with helping me to love the heck out of two wheels.

I love that my photos/FOC dominates this thread, haha.

the somali kids love bikes too… its awesome… they cruise around on the most busted bikes you can imagine, i give them new parts, and in no time something else it broken… i guess they ride hard

BradQ

The Somali families are also about the best neighbors ever. I don’t know them very well at all, but every interaction I’ve had with the kids or adults has been totally respectful and positive. They’re some of the nicest kids down at Arsenal Park when we’re playing polo, and totally hilarious any time I’ve struck up conversation with them. Yesterday one of them was asking me about my flip flop hub on my bike actually.

bikeygirl

Private Message

YES and YES!!! I’ve seen the kids flock around on their bikes too! That’s awesome!! Although…. their bikes are a lot nicer than mine, haha!

Very happy to find all of this out about L-Ville and the Somali Refugees. I lived in Polish Hill before, which while I loved it, it was very quiet with no much neighbor interaction, except for when I saw people going down to Gooskies, The Rock Room, and even the Warsaw Tavern (old days).

Coolness! I’m gonna pay more attention now when I see the kids on their bikes!!

^ Indeed. I’m sad to not be racing at the Oval this year, since I can’t take advantage of the new tarmac every week.

Bouncing down that road was less than pleasant previously.

I’m Witherspoon, which is the cross street where Chislett ends.

The unfortunate side effect of paving Baker is the sport bike goons can zip up the road again bouncing off the rev limiter.

This is one of the downsides of M’side. This sound is much like seeing a robin–a sign of spring.

Eric, you probably live like two doors down from me. Do you have BikePGH stickers on your vehicles?

I never thought that Baker was that bad, but yeah, those guys seem to be revving their engines more annoyingly than ever. Haven’t thought of a constructive way of telling them to stop being dicks yet though.

Man, if those guys refrained from revving their engines and people didn’t have never ending barking dogs, M’side would be golden

PS I’m in the house that had the desk sitting out in front of it for several months, and now there is a refrigerator. We’re classy like that

don’t worry. our grass gets cut once a week maybe and then it’s a million feet long. when we’re home and it’s light out we’re either riding or it’s raining. i can’t wait until school is out. i feel like parents and kids stare at our house cause of the long grass.

our back yard is a mud pit. if you ever ride down swan alley between hampton and bryant, and see a brindle boxer/pit trying to jump a 6 foot privacy fence in the back and the neighbor’s 4 foot chainlink fence on the other side, that is my house. my dog wants to give your face a million kisses.

i do love living in morningside. over on our side it’s pretty quiet.

Eric

Yep, a maroon mini van and tan sedan with a roof rack.

There will be no complaints from me about random not-normally-outside objects left outside for an inordinate amount of time, nor the barking of dogs, I’m probably more guilty than the lot of yinz.

I also own a motorcycle, but the stock exhaust is in place, and I rarely rev its single cylinder past idle in the neighborhood.

Morningside is a great neighborhood, if we can get some improved cycling routes at the exits (Baker and Stanton), it will be just about perfect.

Pierce

Private Message

Jun 5 2010 at 4:14pm #

Yeah, I think I’ve seen it. It is kind of a dirt bike? I don’t think I’ve ever heard it. Only the ear piercing ones from across the street. But yeah, it isn’t half bad. Nobody has peed in my front door or anything yet :P

Hey, don’t lump all us (ex) sportbike goons together. Kidding, just being mocksensitive.

Most of the dorks you hear screaming the engines don’t have any more idea of how to actually ride than than they do to knit a sock.
