Welcome MN. It doesnt always rain here, sometimes it snows. Although right now I think it’s just perspiring.

Anyway, I hope to see you on one of our group rides, and welcome to the ‘Burgh!

Thanks Marko.

I really want to do some group rides, I tried to hit up critical mass but when I got to the dinosaur there was no one. kind of a bummer

Wow, nobody? I’m not surprised, really, but I am surprised that we have completely replaced CM with Flock in a single year.

To catch up, here’s a blog post about the first ride, a year ago, and one the following month. I said I’d write about our ride a week ago, but it hasn’t yet come to fruition. Stay tuned.

Meanwhile, welcome to the ‘Burgh!

Welcome to the forums @humblesage. Is your BMX customized for commuting?

humblesage

Thanks for the welcome.

As for customization:

I kinda made some weird build choices with my current bike. And BMX building is really a series of compromises once you start to rely on one for transportation. I come from a race background, but race frames on the street can be a risk without spending mad cash. So my commuter is a full-on CrMo frame/forks/bars job with really tough street/park trick components. It’s heavy, and with tires full of air rides like a rolling brick. You have to be committed I guess. This setup has lasted me four years though with only tires, brake pads and brake cables needing replaced.

It takes a certain kind of person to build and ride a BMX some 10-20 miles/day, but I enjoy it. It’s what you make it. At the age of 29 it’s time for BMX bikes to start to play secondary role, and while I’ll keep one (at least) in my quiver at all times, I’m kinda excited to move into the fixed gear world this fall. (It’s nice to know there are companies making faster track style bikes that can stand up to a nut job like me finally.) :)

Welcome West Suburbs! need more people from out that way. Awesome about the bmx, badass bikes. This is the kind of place where no one is going to have any expectations about what kind of bike you ride, just ride. Sounds like you have the right idea. Although if you do need any advice as to what might be a good next bike, you’re going to get more than you bargain for. See you out on the road sometime.

Right on!

Sometime between pre-purchase anxiety and buyer’s remorse, I may ask for final words of advice. Till then, I’m trying not to think about new toys till I can actually afford them. haha… :)

@church: I saw that SE at Thick. In fact, until I saw that bike I was digging on single-speed DJ bikes. That Analog looks so clean though, I’ll have to look into that one for sure. Thanks!! :)

I’ve pretty much decided to find something used and wait for the 2012s to start hitting the shops. Or maybe even build up one which is usually how I handle the whole bike thing. So I’ll be on the lookout for used fixies over the next couple weeks.

Hi all, I just joined today.

Name: Michael

Neighborhood: Morningside. I’m new to the Burgh, having just moved here in December. Loving it, though!

Type of riding: I commute to work every day – only a 15 minute ride from here to Bakery Square in Larimer/East Liberty. I’d love to do more recreational riding, though.

# of bikes you own: 1

Music that you are listening to right this second: Reliving my youth and listening to the Fixx’s “Reach the Beach” album.

Fav picture of you on a bike (optional): No pics of me riding, but here’s my bike:

This is my bike – had it since 1998. A ’98 Gary Fisher Zebrano. I love it and it’s served me well on road and off, in the city and in the country, for over a dozen years now. The gearshift’s been replaced, but everything else is original. Man, I love this bike!

Type of riding: mostly recreational, with mr. marvelous :)

# of bikes you own: 1

Music that you are listening to right this second: random feature on the iPod is loving Michael Jackson at the moment

This post is waaay overdue since I’ve met many of you, and heard of a lot of you from mr. marvelous. I don’t get out riding as much as I would like, but I do enjoy the Flock rides and taking off on my bike for a date day with mr. m. Planning on working out on the trainer this winter and building up some strength. I’ve heard that spin classes are good for cold weather also. I am just an okay rider, I have the muscle to get up some good size hills, but sometimes the descents kind of terrify me…something about barreling down a hill with nothing but a helmet to protect me on a road filled with pot holes, debris, and the occasional speeding car going around a blind turn… I enjoy keeping myself in once piece :)

My bike is a Trek FX 7.2. For the riding I do, I think it serves me well. I made a few upgrades but not too much of an investment since I would like to eventually get a bike that is more fun.
