Not sure what you thought was a cat- was it just below and behind the 520 on the bike?
I had some other bike/fish pix, but they did not come out like I had hoped, so I did not post them. Might in another application sometime though.

Cool! I get my first tag in a while, and I get to be tagsetter for the next round!

I know what I want my tag to be, but am having trouble classifying it. So, I am going to go with “crazy, creative, inventive parking spaces”

Can be bike parking, car parking, boat parking, whatever. But, it should make you do a double take when you see it.

I’ll have mine posted later today.

Helen, that makes you the time setter.

I’m just happy that we had seven participants in that round. It was getting lonely when the weather was less pleasant.

Hoping for 10+ on this round!

Hopefully my riding will start increasing. I just couldn’t move this morning, felt like lead. Bleh.

P.S. I am really pissed that I missed fish. I had a photo, just never remembered to post it!

Hm, didn’t get a picture of it, but there was a tv van parked on the sidewalk across from the School Board earlier this evening. (& w/ 3/4 of the legal spots wide open, too…)

Good think I checked email as I am out of town for the week!
As it is Earth Day, and bikes are a very earth friendly form of transportation, my tag choice will be other Earth Friendly things- no excuse for not coming up with something for this one. Put on your creative thinking caps and come up with some good ones here- even if you have to explain what makes your photo subject earth friendly.

Two weeks seems like a standard amount of time – so round ends, let see, 30 days has September, April…….you know the rest, Monday, May 6th.
I have a good one in mind, but will not be able to post it until this weekend, unless I see a bicycle posing for me somewhere.

Bellevue, PA

I stumbled across this when a Port Authority bus was detoured around an accident scene, and I had to walk a few blocks to my final destination.

The garage doors were open, but no one in sight at the time I took the photo. I wanted to know more. I’ll just have to take that road less travelled more often.

Tag #1: Weird parking.
I love this. Someone apparently cannot park, whether a truck or not I do not know, but I giggle at this every time I ride by it. In a lot across from the end of Thompson Run Rd, on Babcock Blvd, Ross Twp.

Tag #2: Of or pertaining to Earth Day.
Reminiscent of wind and solar power, and also marking a flower garden. On Penn Ave in Garfield, a couple spaces up from Spak Pizza, across from Roboto.

Every time I pull into the garage off of Cherry Way, I smell pizza emanating from some eatery. I haven’t figured out which one yet, but it always gets my mouth watering. So, Tag #1 will be …

PIZZA!!

Your favorite shop, a slice of homemade on a picnic table in the yard, somehow managing to eat a slice while astride a bike, a pizza box strapped to the back of a bike, whatever. Be creative!

Oh, we need Ben to play this round! He mentioned to me late last week that his “new” panniers might “solve his pizza pick up problem!”

I’m heading to DC late this week. Maybe I can find time while I am there to take Bike Share to get pizza!

Marko, you should get extra points for playing while injured. You’ve also inspired me for tag 2 (please don’t take it personally).

Tag 2: Things that prevent or make it harder to ride a bike. I’m talking cars blocking trails, portapotties blocking sidewalk, injuries, bad weather, broken bike, flat tire, etc. Try not to be angry when posting, but I think it’s important to acknowledge that sometimes there are obstacles.

Tags expire at 11:59 on Sunday, May 19 (sticking with 2 weeks for now).

My contribution to Tag #2: Flat tire on the bicycle.

As an added bonus, three of my unicycles are in the background. To some, they too can be considered things that make riding difficult.

I thought I had posted this earlier.

Instructions are to walk bike on sidewalk (while crossing bridge). Given my flat tire, I was happy to comply. Each of these was a disincentive to “ride” my bike.

Did we forget about this game? How about we extend the tag until 23:59 on Sunday, May 26? That will still give us one holiday weekend day to get started on the next tag, too.

OK my contribution (keep passing the pizza joint and forgetting to grab a pic). What is a hindrance to cycling? The West End Circle! Though it does provide a pretty view through the chain link fence.

And now I’m going to spin the wheel.

I’ll go first.

I just spent a half hour clearing out some underbrush that obstructed travel. Although it was on a staircase, I actually hauled the bike down and up it before/after I did the work.

So the tag is: Undergrowth, shrubbery, particularly any that obstruct your path of travel. Japanese knotweed sticking out into a trail? Someone’s stupid wild rose bush trying to rake your shirt to pieces as you ride by? Really tall grass along a narrow bit of shoulder? A low branch on a street?

If you feel like bringing a chopping device with you and taking a set of before-and-after set of pics, I’m not going to try to stop you.

I need to re-take this shot if it is going to count as my entry for this tag, but the theme is: Celebrate a great place to ride!

The right lane of Rte 65 (Ohio River Boulevard) was closed to traffic, and when they milled the lane they left about a 30 inch wide strip that was both protected from traffic and still had a pretty rideable surface. I felt like I was on my own personal cycle track! It was lovely! And, if you look closely at this photo, you can see that I was the second rider through this protected area.

Undergrowth – this is a serious problem and I’m going to 311 this next, but, at the foot of the Fort Pitt bridge sidewalk outbound, the Japanese knotweed is blocking the sidewalk and forcing pedestrians and bikes dangerously close to flying traffic:

A great place to ride – Noblestown Road from the West End to Crafton, this is only 2 miles from the point, but it is a wide, sweeping, verdant downhill on my commute into town, and a long gradual climb out. This is actually amazing, I have only seen a handful of cyclists on this route in 2 years, but when I stopped to take a pic, I heard a whirring on my left and another cyclist rode perfectly into the shot!!! Karmic. I was giddy all the way in.

This stuff is knotweed? I thought it was Audrey. On the ped walkway/bike path/rampy thing that goes under the ramp that connects Steuben St and Main St in West End. I don’t know how else to describe it. By Artifacts.

I’m busy the next couple of weeks, but I’m totally going out with a machete soon. Hopefully I won’t be arrested for looking scary.

Tag #2, great place to ride. This is one of my intermediate destinations, the Perry Park & Ride lot, about four miles from the house. From here, I can (and in this instance, am about to) mount my bike on the front of an O1 Ross Flyer and zoom into town at 50+ mph.

In the background is the entrance to the I-279 HOV Lane, which has big gates across it after mid-morning to make sure nobody drives down it. It is open outbound in the afternoon, evening, and all weekend, which you cannot determine from the Ross end.

Gahhh… How did it get sideways? Isn’t there a way to correct this after it gets uploaded? It’s right in the email, it’s right in the download, but uploaded, it gets sideways.

StuInMcCandless

@pinky – No need for a machete, just yank them out. The real problem is the root structure. They spread via a rhiozome, and if you gently yank on a stalk at the outside of the group, you will note that they spread sideways. You might be surprised at how many you can pull out in a minute. You will be equally surprised at how many there are to pull.

Wikipedia page.

The key to not having them spread farther is to ensure that the plant material dies off altogether without re-rooting. Ideally you’d have to dig up the entire rhiozome, but for right now, I’m just happy with ridding the trail of overgrowing stalks.

^Pinky, that was my other choice, but I went with the Fort Pitt Bridge sidewalk. I’m always afraid I’m going to run face-first into another rider on that WEC bypass.
