Yep – and here it is. Too bad the sun washed it out.

Two more to check out.

1) Helen Street, McKees Rocks Bottoms, underneath the McKees Rocks Bridge.

2) McKees Rocks Plaza, across from the Eat & Park.

I found another large one that I don’t see on your spreadsheet. In the Strip District, the top few floors of a large building have a large mural. Very easily seen from I-279 heading across the Vets Bridge. I don’t know how you’d get it from bicycle level, unless you took the bike up an elevator to an upper floor of the Wholey Fish warehouse on Penn/Smallman/15th.

StreetView, from Vets Bridge approach, northbound.

I think you’re referring to “Welcome to the Strip”, Stu. You can get a great view of it from the 16th St. Bridge – which is where I took this one from.

Is that it?

We haven’t made it to McKees Rocks yet, but I’m adding those two to the list. Thanks for all the inputs, Stu!

I’ve been watching that one under the 40th St Bridge. Very interesting. The design was done by someone at the Robotics place next door. It’s a computer generated version of Doughboy Square and it’s been fascinating to see it developing. When it’s finished it’s supposed to appear 3D when you look at it from a distance.

Sorry, HiddenVariable, no names were mentioned. This is what the artist is working from:

If you find out who designed the mural, please let me know and I’ll give them credit along with the artist on the final photo of this mural.

Sewickley SpeakEasy bar/restaurant, PA65 northbound, just outside (and a little south of) Sewickley.

And JSYK, this is damnably difficult to get to by bike.

Yet another one in Millvale, Redstone Ironworks. IIRC this is the shop (or one of them) that manufactures the 3 Rivers bike racks.

Farragut & Sedgwick, Millvale. Not on SV. (My 2nd pick for the tag the other day, but I went with the Knights of Equity monument.)

Thanks again, Stu. I’d forgotten about the Speakeasy one. Last time I drove past it was in pretty bad shape. Wonder if they’ll fix it.

We did get the one above on the way back through Millvale that day. There was a pickup parked in front of it though so it was hard to get the whole thing in the photo.

On that one you mentioned in Sullivan field: I don’t twitter and the only info I could dig up on line said they were painting the refreshment stand. Do you know if they’re actually doing some sort of mural on it? Did they give a start date on the project?

Do you have the ’57 Chevy on Penn just inbound from the 16th Street Bridge? Easy to miss if you’re not looking for it.

Also saw a painted fence in someone’s yard up in the Hill, somewhere around Webster & Watt. Don’t know if that’s the sort of thing you’re after, but it really stood out. I’ll try to get a better bead on an address on my way home tonight. It’s very close to the Sprout Fund mural on Wylie featuring the saxophone.

I’ll see if I can detour through Etna on my way home, too. (I’m on the m/c, so can afford to travel a little easier, plus the weather is beautiful.)

No! We haven’t heard anything regarding a Chevy on Penn! I’m thinking that we usually divert from Penn at or before the 16th St bridge so we probably wouldn’t have found that for a long time. Thanks for keeping an eye out for us, Stu. we appreciate the help.

We did find a sort of mask design above a fence on Wylie about a block below “Listening Through Time” (the one with the sax). Could that be it? The photo we took is posted on the FB page.

FYI there are over 200 murals that we know about so far, and I think there are still a lot more.

@Steven – I don’t think I ever told you that we really enjoyed the one you alerted us to in Homestead. What an interesting mural! Thanks.

I didn’t get back up into the Hill tonight, but did roll through Etna and got some pics of the tile mural I thought I saw.

Apologies for having the “other” bike in a photo on this board.

@srpit: Thanks! And thanks for taking a photo of it! I only saw it once in person, for a few seconds, so I was glad of the chance of another look.

There’s a mural in Squirrel Hill on the side of the pet store at the corner of Nicholson and Murray Avenues. I think the simple design is replicated on the neighborhood welcome banners hanging from street lamp poles in the area.

I don’t know if Braddock is too far for you (guess not, since you’ve got one in East Pittsburgh), but Pierce posted a mural photo on this page (a non-tag on a tag-o-rama page) that I didn’t see on your list.

@Steven Glad the photo gave you a chance to really look at that one. There seems to be a LOT going on in it! I’d love to get the artist’s story behind it. So far we’ve met or messaged with about 5 of the artists on some of the other murals. It’s interesting to hear what they set out to show or say when they created them.

Funny that you mentioned it, but we made our first venture into Braddock yesterday and we did find that mural from the tag-o-rama page (but I like their photo of it better so I’ll have to re-take it). We discovered quite a few murals there just sticking to the main street, but we plan to return to search more of the area. Someone there told us there were several “up by the mayor’s house”.

We’ll hit that pet store next time we pass through Sq Hill – thanks! Another place we were yesterday, but we missed it. We started our “coffeeneuring” there and then went to see Jonawebb’s wife’s mural – which although it’s deteriorating is very nice.

Appreciate all the help. Our list is getting long, but we know we’ve just scratched the surface. Who knew? The ‘Burg is full of art!

There is a new mural on the side of a building at the intersection of East Warrington and Beltzhoover Ave., which is the border of Allentown and Mt. Washington. I saw it last night but did not get a good look at it.

@Steven – We finally got back up to Squirrel Hill this morning and found the one on the pet store. Thanks! I’m not sure how we missed that one. I suppose we’re usually heading down the hill there when we pass that way and just never looked back over our shoulders. Nice one!

Stu – do you happen to remember where in Etna that tile mural is?

I’d like to thank everybody for their help identifying murals – and please keep ‘em coming, we’re always interested in another mural. This week our targets include the new one downtown, and the new mural at Sullivan Field in L-Ville.

But I’d like to ask you, if time permits, to please take a look at this Google map of murals in Braddock embedded in a blog post. It’s a first-rough-draft and I’d appreciate any feedback/critique you’d care to offer before we build maps of the 200-ish murals we’ve got.

If you’re going to take a look, bear this in mind: The idea is, we want to build maps for walking and biking tours of public art.

So please consider: Would this help you to do that? What else would you need? What else would help? A different format etc? We’re still in the “blank slate” state.

Thanks in advance, Vannevar.

I’m not sure anyone ever got this one, mentioned in an earlier post. It’s next to a gas station in Ross Twp, Perry Highway at Lindley Lane, across from H.P. Brandt Funeral Home. It’s easy to miss because of the direction it’s pointing as well as all the ads.

Nice, Stu! Thanks. I did have the info from your earlier post about one across from the funeral home and I apologize if I neglected to acknowledge that before. I did add it to our list. We just haven’t gotten up there yet.

We’ve been mapping our rides to pick up clusters of murals in the same general location or direction. We’re about out of those groups and will start going after the stragglers and lone murals soon.

Really appreciate all the help!

I find these by taking bus rides or toodling around on the motorcycle.

Just realized that the link I gave you to the spreadsheet wasn’t working. I wanted to check something quickly, was on the iPad and remembered the link was there so I used it. Bummer. That information never updated. I don’t know why. Here’s the current link if anyone’s interested in seeing what we actually have now. The ones highlighted in yellow are still ones we haven’t gotten to yet.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AkUVpELyxQ4ydGp5cnBid1JoNS02NzExeGd4R2FadFE#gid=0

I still need to update that list with the other door murals from the Oakland Door project that we picked up yesterday.

Thanks to everyone again for helping us with this.

Has anybody seen this on a building?

it comes from this blog post which is pretty cool, this photographer assembles 5×7-type photos and then builds a collage to get back to the big picture.

I haven’t seen this one, if anybody knows where it’s at I’d appreciate it. Thanks!
