The race organizers are pleased to announce that registration is now open for the Steel City Showdown, Western Pennsylvania’s premier spring bicycle race, presented by Allegheny General Hospital Sports Medicine. The race will take place Sunday April 17th, 2011 on Pittsburgh’s North Shore next to PNC park. Racers and spectators can expect exciting action as the amateur racers sprint across the Roberto Clemente and Andy Warhol bridges.

With the support of Allegheny General Hospital Sports Medicine and other local sponsors, a prize list including $4000 cash has been secured for the 8 race categories. In our commitment to women’s cycling, the race offers equal payouts to the Men’s and Women’s fields.

In addition to the race, a Showdown Tailgate located on the race sidelines will feature tents from local bike shops, sponsors, charities, and other local businesses.

Awesome, the downtown crits have always been popular with spectators. What’s the difference between this “criterium-style bicycle race” and a true criterium?

This is a true four corner crit across two of pittsburgh’s famous bridges. Make no mistake that racing is going to be fast and exciting to watch.

Sign up early as races will fill up as we get closer to the showdown.
