Since the old thread was messing up at every page, I’m starting a new thread with Jason‘s game.
A refresher of the rules:
“I tried to start this on Facebook and Facebook once again proved to me how much it sucks. So by someone’s suggestion I am creating this game here.

The rules are easy (although wordy, it is not hard to play)…

#1 - Find the tag and get a picture of your bike in the same location (as best as possible). The first person to post a found tag gets to place the next tag. If you get a tag, but somebody else posts their picture first, you lose – you’ve been Bruced.

#2 - Take the tag to a new location, shoot a photo with your bike in the picture, and post it here. Keep the tag within Pittsburgh city limits and the surrounding neighborhoods – a map of the geography the tag game covers is here . Give a few hints so the next person can figure out where the tag is located. Try to place the tags in interesting locations, somewhere historic, etc. Remember, the point of the game is not to make the clues difficult to figure out. It is about riding, not Googling.

#2a – After you pick up a Tag, a new tag must be placed within 36 hours. If the new tag is not set within the time limit, the first Bruced posted gets the tag. If no Bruce was claimed, tag will revert to the previous tag, and somebody else will get their chance. If you won’t have the time to drop off a new tag, don’t pick it up to begin with.

#2b – This rule is intended to keep the game moving. If the overdue tag is posted before somebody grabs the reverted tag, then the new tag will stand. However, giving the overdue tag-holder a load of crap is highly encouraged.

#3 - Tag must be findable – don’t make your tag so obscure that no one will find it. Make sure to let folks know what riding conditions are involved to get to your tag.

#4 - File photos are NOT permitted. You gotta ride to play this game.

#5 – All images of tags that are posted, whether picking up or setting a new tag, MUST include the bike you rode to the tag. If your bike isn’t in the posted image, you don’t have a tag.

#6 The bicycle in the picture must get to the tag location under the player’s own pedal-power.

#7 – No whining.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

A photobucket, smugmug, or other similar online photo hosting site will be needed to play. A link showing how to post images is below.
Below are pics to show you how the game is played.

Some helpful links for the convenience of new players:

If you want to check out the Tag Map, you have two choices:
1. View All Tags shows all the tags at once, and displays quickly, but can’t be edited.

2. tinyurl.com/tag-o-rama-map is for editing the map. It loads slower and displays in multiple pages of about 200 tags each.

3.
The Tag-O-Rama spreadsheet, showing who got which tag

4.
The original Tag-O-Rama thread

5.
How to post photos

For those of us who want to know more about the record keeping functions of Tag-o-Rama 2…

To add a marker to the Google Tag Map, sign in to Google, go to the map, and click the red Edit button on the left. Then click the blue marker button in the upper middle. Then click where the marker should go. No need to bother with linking the photo; Steven has inserted some Javascript that does it easily.

To save the changes, click the Save button on the left (or it may say Saved already, in which case you don’t need to), then click Done right next to it. Note: On a mobile device/different browser maybe Google makes it work differently.

and here are some examples and such.

So for example, Jason dropped this tag:

Quizbot Picked it up:

and then dropped a new one:

complete with a hint of the tag’s location

I grabbed the tag earlier:

and will post another one tomorrow night. The game continues on as such.

There is no active tag just yet, but there will be within 36 hours, I promise! :)

I’m reposting this info so it appears on the first page, for the convenience of new players.

Here’s the Tag-O-Rama map, with links to the threads

Here’s the Tag-O-Rama spreadsheet showing who got which tag

Perhaps this would be a good opportunity to rephrase rule 5, “The bicycle in the picture must get to the tag location under its own power.” The game’s motorcycle origins are peeking through here. Suggested replacement: “5. The bicycle in the picture must get to the tag location under the player’s own power.”

BTW, I did hear back from erok, he said he thought he fixed it (but I guess not?) but he had limited access to deal with it on account of being in mexico…

It kind sucks we could not keep the original thread going but it was beginning to be a pain in the ass. I like all the info on the first page now.

RF: can you edit your first post to contain the tag map and other good info people posted above?

Erica

Private Message

Sadly, you can only edit a post within the first hour that you’ve posted it.

Most of that info is in the first couple of posts after the initial photos. I’m just glad it’s all on the first page. I could never find the link to that map in the original thread, and it was in there a couple of times.

I know erok can work some after-the-fact magic, but he’s vacationing.

oh, thanks!

I took a shot of the new tag, but I’m not at a computer that can read SD cards. just a few more hours.

EDIT: looking at the picture, i’ll have to take another picture, because I missed all the distinguishing characteristics of the place in mine. It’ll still be posted around 8pm though

New Tag!

This is a pretty rad place if you’re looking for some reading material.

Sorry for staying in the east. But I think yinz can put up with it: I believe in Yinz.

a quick note on the current tag (not a hint): I recommend going when they’re open, pick up some books. If you show your Bike-PGH member card, you get 10% off!

I can’t believe that sat for so long. I believe they’re also working on getting a cafe setup. Cool people. They’re like the freeride of books.

I actually volunteer there, and we are working on setting up a cooperative cafe/bookstore. I’m really excited about it.

new tag:

(sorry for the poor composition of this photo.)

Yesterday i was googling some trivia about pittsburgh. I read that the first drive-in gas station was constructed here. I think that it may be a disputed thing or maybe it was a specific kind of filling station that was the first, because other cities, such as portland, seem to also claim that they had the first. there IS one of those historical blue markers on the sidewalk saying it was first, though. maybe ask walt.. he may know?

That tag is at Baum and st Clair in slibby. I rarely ride on Baum past negley outbound, so I never noticed. There is an automotive repair place called walter’s a few feet from here. Oh and the mortuary school is across the street. I Saw some studens smoking outside. Guess they want to become clients sooner?

Whoops – yeah, I forgot to post the street names. And now that I’m home looking at the image without all of the outside glare on my phone, hey, it’s not so bad!

There’s an odd, cool, sculpture thingee on top of the red pole. You can see it on both of our images.

New Tag
The last tag I found was in a Hill neighborhood -so too is this one. Conversely, my last tag forced riders to look down, this one – look up.
I laughed when I first saw the sculptures – amusing! Until today, I hadn’t noticed the Sprout Fund plaque nearby.

Dan- two things – is that the new bike I’m seeing in all your posts? And, you remembered the sculpture – right on! (FWIW, that is absolutely my favorite piece of sculpture in the city!)

Photobucket

3106 Brereton St.

I did some googling to find this one. This article is worth a look:

I missed it at first so I had to climb the hill 2 times.

Photobucket

This tag is very popular with skateboarders / BMX. Just don’t skate there during school hours.

Yeah, This tag will more then likely be a hill climb (uphill from polish hill). Get out there while the weather is nice!

Thanks for posting the article about the artist and his work – I agree, worth a look. And yeah, me too, I rode up and down a couple hills trying to remember where I had seen the sculptures last year.

Hm, I have no idea where that skateable ampitheatre is. But, for those who liked the Paul Bowden sculptures, there are a few nice white porcelain ones hanging out on the walls at Lili cafe on Po’Hill.

Steven

Yup, tag 62 featured the door handles.

Sad to report that the bridge sculpture in tag 164 has fallen over. I guess it now represents the city’s crumbling infrastructure.

I thought this might be a tough one.

The school is not listed on google maps. That might make things a bit harder.

Copy and pasted:

____________ is a secondary magnet school in the _______ neighborhood of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA. _________ is one of ten high schools in the Pittsburgh Public Schools. ________ is currently a 6th-11th grade school with 530 students for the 2010-2011 school year and will expand to a full 6-12 school in the 2011-2012 school year.

I know where this is. Too late now, and the next few days look like rain, so maybe quizbot will get it.
