Lots of tunnel tags as of late. Pittsburgh: City of Bridges (and Tunnels).

Per Rule #2:
#2 – … Remember, the point of the game is not to make the clues difficult to figure out. It is about riding, not Googling.

FWIW, I need to get out more. I do not know where this tag is any more than the last couple.

Hey, rule #7 – No whining
Just bike, let the wind blow your hair and enjoy.

Going back to the original source of this game (ADVrider), note that clues are barely a part of the game, most of the time they just flat out tell everyone where the pic is (at most, a minute of Google searching). This encourages everyone to ride, not just those who have the time to decipher the clues. They play it on a state-wide basis too, which keeps everyone involved.

Original thread: http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=372674

Just some food for thought… I’d suggest going at least county-wide if we would move to that “clue-less”, or clue-easy game…which will involve a lot more members that don’t live in the city.

I can barely believe this has gone so long without being picked up. Ask Shirley – she’ll tell you where this tag is located.

::: crickets:::

How about some pointed clues?

Ask Shirley Booth and Natalie. On a fairly new trail. Close to the river. If that doesn’t do it, I’ll just have to give the map coordinates!

I’m hoping…

Tunnel under the railroad tracks, off the Hazelwood Trail, about 1/10th of a mile east of the lunar lander that was tagged last year.

Thank you, Mr. D. I’m not sure if I’m perplexed or amused by td’s assumption that mentioning “Shirley” would bring Shirley Booth (star of “Hazel”) to our minds. Fan of old-time Broadway, td?

I’m old enough to remember watching “Hazel” every week, and I didn’t get the connection.

Hidden in plain sight, good tag TD et al.!

It is pretty invisible if you are riding east, because the trail points you away from it. I only spotted it after I’d ridden around Hazelwood looking for it, given up because I was going to be late for work, and was heading back.

It just occurred to me yesterday that that might have been the place. I have looked at that tunnel from the trail but never diverted to check it out. Personally I would have used a clue that referenced something having to do with Hamamelis virginiana.

jonawebb

@ed, or maybe combined them: “Shirley Hamamelis” would have been perfect. Anyone would have gotten that one.
Edit: Whoops, sorry, whiney. Game on!

It took me forever to figure out who ‘natalie’ was. I apparently don’t watch enough movies.

(I don’t watch any movies.)

Playing along with this via the computer, once I saw Shirley Booth I immediately figured it must be Natalie Wood, and some location with Wood in the name. But for the life of me, I could NOT remember what movie/TV show Shirley Booth had become famous for. Of course, it was “Hazel.” AAARGH!

A diabolical, clever and ultimately a good inventive clue that really made you think a little bit to figure it out. But when you did, it told you what you wanted/needed to know.

“Hooray for Tommy Roe” would also have worked. For me, anyway.

NEW TAG

What do you mean you need a clue? How many giant fiberglass fireplaces are there in Pittsburgh?

Oh well.

If you can get one over our 1st president you’re practically home free.

LOL I suspected that it was W.Lib due to the car lot in the window reflection… never noticed the fireplace before. #(things we miss when we drive cars instead of ride bikes)

Ha!
More like I just keep having a very-very hard time understanding your choice of tags. Mailboxes like that are a dime-a-dozen in this City, just like the background. And then the tag-clue, while all flowery and in rhyme, is still like -what are you even trying to say?
