Salty, nice first tag with a share bike! How’s it ride?

Yeah – that was also my first time riding one of them. I wanted to use one to collect the tag but there was an issue with my key so I had to wait until today.

They’re definitely solid bikes and it rode fine. It’s cool how well everything is sealed up – internal cable routing, guards around all the cable ends, 3 speed hub and roller brakes on both wheels. The chain is partially enclosed. I might have to go out for a longer ride sometime (including some hills) to get a better picture – I think 1st gear is plenty low, it’s easy to spin out in 3rd.

If it were up to me I’d change it to a 7 speed hub. It would be nice if the handlebars could adjust although that’s not a big deal.

Another scarecrow… this Pirates fan grabs his crotch and your attention as you ride by. Finding this will be a bit tough if you don’t know where he dwells.

For today, anyone who knows where the scarecrow is, can probably pick this up easily. For those who don’t know where he is… here’s a meager clue… he has a great view of the city.

I’ll add another clue tomorrow if this doesn’t get picked up quickly.

Set by me, campV, campB, Wuhoo and a newbie setter, who joined us after we picked up the Animal Rescue League tag : JLaClaire

Argh, I found a scarecrow with a great view of the city. But it’s a different scarecrow! The one I found has a full face. How many of these are there?

Ain’t that the truth… unfortunately, I realized that the hard way. :(

1801 Clayton Ave, just off Perrysville. I didn’t feel like going up the driveway for a close-up. Same house, though.

The full-face scarecrow is just down the hill from this, near the top of Henderson.

@Stu – yeah, regarding not going up the property owner’s driveway… we talked to him to ask if we could shoot the image, then told him to expect at least one more cyclist to come by and take a picture. He was cool with that. We too, wanted to respect his property and let him know that someone else might be in his driveway.

Hey, @stu, I’m planning a trip to the Carnegie Library’s Pennsylvania room today after work to see if they have records of business locations say around 1980. If they do I’ll try to cross-reference those with rental spots on the CBRE web site. Or, if you want to make things a lot easier, you could post a new clue.

LOL!

I have an inkling where it is, but I’ve been too busy (*cough* obsessing *cough*) geocaching along the Ohio this week to get over there.

I have a pretty good idea where this is. In fact, I’m almost certain I know where this is. Unfortunately I’m (probably) not going to get there before 7 tonight.

@bb, I don’t get back in town before about 6:30. So, if you act fast, you may beat me, what with the trip to the Carnegie Library and all…

I will say that this picture was not there until recently. They were putting it up when I was on my way to the bike lunch. Go find the thread where we were to meet, and you’re about 100 yards away.

Edit: The place only closed for business this time last year, and was torn down in December, so by George, you don’t need that long a memory to remember the place.

Since @RustyRed almost met us (@byogman and I) that day, she should have a pretty good idea where this is, too.

Is this right? The Herky Polkock sign is fine. The old George Aiken s in Forbes

That is Paul Heckbert

i went there around 6 tonight & i didn’t see the pic Stu posted. I knew where the former George Aikens was located, but since i didn’t see the poster, I figured it was a different location
Boo.

That’s about the same place. I hadn’t been past there today, but it looks like they took the sign down along the fence. Yes, about in front of where George Aiken’s Deli used to be, on Forbes looking across the now-level lot.

We have a tradition in the game of taking pics of places that changed quite recently that make an area look new and different, so when I saw the guy zip-tying a 100-foot banner along the fence, I really worked at trying to pick up a tag so I could post this one.

Good detective work, guys!

I actually went by there a couple of days ago, looking for the sign, and figured it must be one of the nine other George Aiken’s locations, hence looking up old business addresses, until Stu’s new clue.

Indeed, it is gone. I went past there this morning. So inside of a week, it went up and got taken back down. Did they lease out the space already? IIRC it’s supposed to be 16 floors high, entirely unrelated to the 30-story tower going up a half block away.

So, with 46 floors of prime office space to replace two-maybe-three floors of dead 1880-era buildings, just how in tarnation are they going to get everyone into Tahn? Don’t say drive-and-park.

jonawebb

I’d be willing to bet the removal of the sign has more to do with business issues than filling the building. E.g., is Mr. Pollock allowed to lease space there, is he allowed now, is the space really ready to be leased, is some construction issue going to mess with the area where the sign was hung, etc.
And, as to how they’re going to fill the building, obviously bike traffic. The entire space is going to be populated with bike commuters, who will be provided with an automatic bike storage system built into the first floor. In my dreams.

The old city in Germany is kind of pretty
And has a famous ruin
These apartments you see, are sort of twee
And not too far from the EEFC

I love this building & I live nearby. Here’s more info in the architect, who designed a few other interesting buildings in the East End.

***Has anyone here had luck using the photo upload interface* on their Android phone? I kept getting an error message that the image file in my “gallery” was empty. I also tried grabbing a URL after uploading the image to Flickr and Google plus, but couldn’t figure it out on the “smart” phone.

*edit: meaning, the message board’s photo uploader

This was picked up with LizziMac, after a nice 10 mile jaunt in a downpour. It took a while to find, but it’s in a spot I pass daily! How have I never noticed this place?

:-) I think it’s easy to miss because of the brick street surface. Not as unpkeasantcas cobblestones, but…

Drewbacca: definitely check out the coffee shop. they have a big, dog-friendly deck and funky beads in the back & occasional music/literary events.

I traveled under sunny, clear, blue skies to move this tag as far as possible from the last one. I took Red street to get home. The photo is crystal clear quality, and is definitely not GIMP’d to conceal details. Every word on that sign is spelled correctly.

Today is not opposite day.
