a tag!

I would hazard that pretty much everyone on this board knows this foot, and has glanced at it on various occasions. Can you put your finger(s) on it?

and to think that I had my choice of feet…

(Dippy is missing a couple of toenails. But why?)

Thanks jonawebb!

Here’s the next tag. This is an awesome taqueria. It would be perfect with some palm trees up front.

Extra credit for a picture of the taco guy when you pick up the tag ;)

No idea, but I’m disappointed you didn’t call it a toe tag.

I thought for sure that I’d get bruced on this one…

On Atwood, between Sennott and Bates in Oakland.

This is a cool taco stand. One literally cool thing about it is that they would stay open during cold weather, during the winter.

It may be Tornado Watching and Severe Thunderstorm Warning out there. But this is Tagging.

First off, to save you the effort of looking it up, “for the pursuit of scientific research to benefit mankind” does not show up on the google or the bing. I know, it’s disappointing. That wall is not on Street View either. I too always figured that the web gave us the sum of all human knowledge. I now know that I was mistaken.

Anyway, I really like this tag. It’s located at the entrance to an important building, probably dating from the golden age of Pittsburgh prosperity. If you go to the movies you might have noticed this wall (certainly the building), in at least a couple of films.

What I find particularly appealing are those traces left by some feckless smoker(s): Note the scruffs on the right: someone is used to leaning against the wall while they smoke. (What is it that smokers think about when they stand around and puff? I’ve always wondered, but I’ve never asked.)
After they’re done they stub the butt against the wall then they (hopefully) drop it into the receptacle on the left. I think they’re right handed. On occasion they use that spot on the border of the inscription (well, maybe only one of them does it). Life is like that. Full of choices, sometimes the right ones.

Anyway, don’t end up in Oz!

” (What is it that smokers think about when they stand around and puff? I’ve always wondered, but I’ve never asked.)”

Back when dinosaurs roamed the earth and I smoked a pack a day, if I was by myself, I was usually thinking about how nice it was not to be at my desk/answering the help line/in front of the grill. Financial and health costs aside, it was really nice to have a socially acceptable excuse to get the hell away from whatever I was being paid to do for a few minutes every hour or two.

if you google {pittsburgh “scientific research” “to benefit mankind”} it finds a story in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, August 29, 1991, about the Pittsburgh Supercomputer Center (at the Mellon Institute)

http://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=1129&dat=19910829&id=UNc0AAAAIBAJ&sjid=aW4DAAAAIBAJ&pg=4128,8081863

600MB was a lot of disk space back then. I think the last PC I had at Westinghouse (1994) had a 540MB hard drive and 6MB memory.

Ha, you and your 6 MB of memory. When I was in school, the computer for the whole campus — research and admin — was an IBM 360/65, with 256 KB of memory. While I was there working as a student assistant, we got an upgrade of 512 KB — the size of a double refrigerator! — 6 feet away from the CPU.
And we liked it that way.

I remember the first time I got to use the tele-type in college instead of having to use punch cards – it was heavenly.

This house is pretty narrow — my bike is longer than it is wide at this end! You’ll have to search across the lanes of squirrel hill to smoke this out.

Some people might view this tag with trepidation. Fine, I say. Even if it was a secret base left over from the Cold War, or perhaps a more recent NWO installation, it’s still a tag.
