That’s a cool fat-trike she’s got there. It sounds like she picked the winning strategy: stable, aerodynamic, low gear ratio, shorter route.
But the others who are currently cycling to the South Pole are doing it with less assistance:
Maria Leijerstam: accompanied by support/camera crew in a motorized vehicle (why are they never in the pictures? :-), didn’t start at the coast.
Dan Burton: unaccompanied, but used food & fuel caches and replacement wheel air-dropped by support crew.
Juan Menendez Granados: unaccompanied, unsupported, sometimes skis when the wind is excessive.
