Urgent Action Alert: Our chance to improve Freeport Road

COM_2015_FreeportOHaraBikeAction

Let’s seize this opportunity

There is an 11th hour chance to improve safety for people riding bikes and driving cars on a notoriously dangerous section of Freeport Road in Blawnox and O’Hara.

PennDOT is in the process of repaving this stretch, and is willing to redesign the road to help slow down vehicles (to actually drive the speed limit) and include space for bicycles. The decision of whether to make these improvements ultimately lies with Blawnox and O’Hara officials, who need to sign off on the project.

People are currently risking their lives to ride on this corridor and this is the only opportunity we’ll have in the foreseeable future to improve this road.

These officials need to hear that their constituents want safer roads, for all users. Please take a minute and contact your elected officials TODAY!

Subject: Don’t waste this opportunity for a safer Freeport Road

Dear Council Members,
I live at [YOUR ADDRESS] and use Freeport Rd. Drivers are consistently breaking the law and speeding through our community. I understand that there is an opportunity to redesign the road to be safer for all users, whether driving or biking. Safety is important to me, and the existing conditions are unacceptable.

Freeport Rd is a major connector for bicycle access. Improving Freeport Road for bicyclists is part of Allegheny County’s Active Allegheny Plan, and on-street bike infrastructure on Freeport Road is alluded to in the Community Trails Initiative Feasibility Plan.

Please support the redesign of Freeport Road that improves safety for road users like me. It would be a shame to miss this opportunity.

Sincerely,
YOUR NAME
