The house is bare at the moment and my lunch looks pretty grim. Don’t care if it’s organic or anything, not looking for a salad bar, restaurant is a no go, just… vegetables.

Pretty sure this is going to send me to the strip (though I don’t know the strip so specific pointers still appreciated). Still, if there’s something closer, that’s a plus.

Strip is probably your best and easiest bet. Just head down Penn Avenue and keep your eyes open. You are certain to find what you need between 16th and 21st.

There is also the option of riding/busing up Centre Avenue to the new grocery in the Hill. It’s in the 1900 block of Centre. I think it’s the 81/83 routes that go up Centre from, but you should verify that.

Final option, Giant Eagle on the North Shore. Just past the railroad tracks on Cedar Avenue. Less than a mile from town.

What kind of vegetables? The cafeteria where I work never has anything I can eat, but I often buy sliced onions and peppers from them for cheap, maybe something you could do too

I wonder, do any of the 7-11s Downtown sell produce? (I doubt it, but it might be worth checking; i think the one in Oakland does.)

you mentioned elsewhere you’re at BNY—the new grocery in the Hill is probably closest to you. If you don’t feel like biking it, the 81/82/83 all go up Centre; they run Fifth in, Seventh out, so you could get on at Sixth & Fifth and ride around, or at Seventh and Wm Penn. Get off at Heldman St. (81 is probably least preferred, as it takes a detour around Crawford Square before reaching the store.)

– Lotus is first, at Penn & 17th. Primarily oriented to Chinese and other East-Asian customers, but some general-interest stuff as well. Cheap house-made tofu, too.
– Skip Wholey, across the street. Though they do sell produce, it’s always a bad sign when your store smells of fish, even if you’re a fishmarket.
– Market Outlet, across Penn at 17th, is the Strip’s ‘scratch-and-dent’/’just-past-sellby’ store. Substantial produce section outside, at least on weekends, & usually pretty cheap.
– Stan’s (Penn at 19?th) is “the” produce market. Wide selection, and although I’ve heard their weekend prices are higher, even then they’re cheaper than most supermarkets.

I don’t generally use the bus, it’s just my AAA in case the bike fails (which it probably will soon, but that’s another thread).

I don’t mind a little climb, could probably use the exercise generally (though today I forgot my laptop at home so did commute X 3). But anyways, Center is fine.

Today, actually I’ll will be on foot since I’m having lunch with a friend who’s also departing BNYM on foot. Hence the greater focus on proximity.

I think Eadie’s, in the Mellon Center, has a salad bar, and some loose fruit options. That’s close, and qualifies as veggies….sort of.
Is the South Side Farmers Market still open? That’s on Tuesday from 4-7 or something. Parking lot on 18th and Carson.

There’s also the Giant Eagle on Cedar Avenue on the North Side.

I forgot to mention this, but there’s also a delicatessen\cafe in the same building as that fish market, close to Amtrak/Greyhound

I got a vegetable sandwich from there before and I seem to recall them having a good selection; I’d bet they’d be willing to sell you some separately
