why is the point closed?

does anyone know when it will reopen? i often like to take bike trips during the day to sit around the fountain and do some work.

but today, after i nearly got hit by a car (six inches away from the first time in about 5-6 years), when i was REALLY looking forward to it, every access path i came across was closed. and i came across them all. and got progressively more angry and less relaxed, which was very counter to the point of my bike trip.

i also noticed the fountain was off. was this just today? will i be able to go back soon? or should i find a new zen place to bike? and while i'm thinking about it, when will the mon wharf reopen?

if i could venture a guess it's for the g20. the main fountain in the point needed repairs, so was going to be out of commission until next year. the other day, alcoa said that they would fix the fountain, for free, and have it ready by the g20

I read something in the news the other day that said Alcoa was "redding up" the fountain for G20. I assume that's the answer. I rode through the Point last night on my way to the northside. The rest of the park is open -- just not the very tip, near the fountain.

The point needs about 20 more bike racks than it currently has. I just went on a boat ride the other day that left from the Mon side of the point. I had to lock to one of those fences that litter the park.

if you meander down the mon side you can get pretty much everywhere... its not really closed as much as its ugly

Seems like it will be pretty comprehensive

The wharf areas and walkways along the Allegheny and Monongahela Rivers; river access, including from boat tie-ups along the water; restrooms; the fountain and access from the parking lot and flag bastion area through the pedestrian tunnel behind the Fort Pitt Museum will be closed.
