Everything you need to know about OpenStreetsPGH – July 25th Route

OpenStreetsPGH is Back! Mini-Route coming to Hazelwood this July.

On Sunday, July 25th OpenStreetsPGH will visit Pittsburgh’s Hazelwood neighborhood. This year’s event will be held as a “mini-route” and will be the only OpenStreetsPGH program of the year. This free community event is organized by Bike Pittsburgh, a non-profit organization that works on behalf of all Pittsburghers to transform our streets and neighborhoods into vibrant, healthy places by making them safe and accessible for everyone to bike and walk.

Two miles of streets within Hazelwood will be opened for safe, distanced outdoor recreation, and three activity “hubs” along the way will provide entertainment, activities, and more. Walk, run, bike, skate, roll, dance, and enjoy the road at your own pace.

OpenStreetsPGH offers something for everyone, from fitness classes, kids bike activities, arts & crafts, live music, local food vendors, and more!

Presented by UPMC Health Plan, OpenStreetsPGH is one of the city’s most beloved summertime traditions and gives people of all ages and abilities the chance to walk, bike, run, and roll along completely car-free streets.

July Mini-Route Preview

Participants will enjoy the car-free streets of Hazelwood Green from 10 am to 2 pm on Sunday, July 25th.

Where should I go? Enjoy the open roads with almost two miles of car-free recreational space, and check out the three programmed activity hubs along the route!

  • The Wellness Hub will feature free fitness classes from the YMCA, Art Healing Workshops from Center of Life, free health screenings by the Center for Integrative Health, Cannondale e-bike demos, sweet summer giveaways from Walnut Capital, information from the Hazelwood Initiative and more!
  • The Kids Hub will feature a learn-to-ride balance bike course for kids just learning to ride, as well as a mini-obstacle course from the Wheel Mill for little ones to practice their skills. Then, create your own custom vinyl bike decal with Protohaven, do an art project with Art Excursions Unlimited, try out a unicycle with Thick Bikes, and cool down with the UPMC Mobile Health Unit!
  • The Food Hub & Plaza will feature local food trucks, vendors, and a free Bikes, BBQ, and Blues mini-festival at the Plaza! La Palapa, Stickler’s Ice Pops, Andre’s Food Truck, ATU Food Truck, C&D Kitchen, Chef Bryanna Collins, Brisket Burgh, and more will be onsite as you listen to live blues music, enjoy libations from the Barrel & Flow Beer Garden, and relax by the fountain and community green space at Hazelwood Green Plaza.
