Bikes Reported Stolen 2014
Well, it’s not one of the ones that have been reported stolen, in case anyone was wondering. And $300 isn’t an oddly low price for this bike, so far as a quick search shows.
Certainly could be. But I think I’ve got a lock or so around the house that I’ve lost the combination to.
I don’t personally find it suspicious. Broke a spoke, sat in a garage, lost the key… all stuff that happens. That said, unless I already have friends in common with someone, I go into any used-bike purchase with the assumption that it’s probably stolen until I’m proven otherwise.
I like how they have a cable lock and state specifically that it’s easy to clip off. Craigslist is funny.
Here’s an interesting article from Bicycle Magazine about the least smash/cut proof locks out there.

Two more stolen bikes reported on FB, but not yet here. Both have yellow frames. One taken from east end, one from a JJ rider downtown. Will add details, or encourage others to do so ASAP.
One a Cannondale, purple stem, blue rims. (East end)
One a FUJI, older model, stem in full upright position, beat up bar tape. (4gateway )
I added Scott’s yellow Cannondale to the bikes reported stolen page.. Haven’t heard about the other one.
Other report came to me from Paul Beaver. He should know to post it here by now.
Paul Beaver?>Bike Party!
Heads up, stolen bike alert.
Downtown, last seen at 4gateway plaza.
Yellow FUJI, with a pivot stem in full upright position, older model, beat up bar tape.
If found contact liberty ave jimmy johns
BikePGH staff member Ngani’s bike was stolen Downtown tonight!
Maruishi stolen outside of Space Gallery downtown. Pink bar tape flower shaped Fiks reflective stickers.
Ulock, Ilock, Welock.
I keep seeing bikes are stolen off front porches. Put your bike inside! I know not everyone has a spacious apartment where they can put it, but an extra minute of carrying a bike up steps or just inside the doorway will prevent people from stealing it.
Theft is a crime of opportunity, and these people scout out what they are going to steal, it rarely is someone just walking around taking as they go. Ulocks deter most, but do not expect that 30 dollar ulock to prevent your bike from being stolen…
Ulocks are like insurance. Yeah you can get by with the cut rate base insurance, but when something happens you are screwed, but if you spend some more money then if something does happen, you should be okay.
Crap…..now Gordon has reported his bike stolen.
Very distinctive Jamis Nova. Orange frame, lots of blue reflective tape covering half of frame. Looks almost neon in headlamps.
Stolen early Sunday from Bakery Square. Has been seen since then in the east end, most recently at Fifth and Craig, and on Ellsworth. Current rider is jot original thief (based on video of theft.). Will edit this with Gordon’s phone. He asks that you call him immediately, if you see it.
His cell is 412.980.3133.
Sorry, info on Jamis Nova is inaccurate….stolen a couple of weeks ago, but spotted very recently in east end. Still retains most of the distinctive markings.
Bicycle Heaven will keep a eye out on this,,,if your bikes come by I know what to do,,,
My bike was taken from the lobby of my building on Sunday, Nov 9 near S. Negley and Walnut.
It is a light blue Raleigh Technium from the 80s. Looks just like this one but with white handlebar tape. http://velospace.org/node/42479
The tape on the right handlebar is coming off. Also had a little black fannypack-type bag behind the seat.
I know it’s probably not worth much but was my dad’s and is as old as I am so I’m sad to lose it.
Any reports of sightings are very much appreciated.
Bike stolen from my garage yesterday in Edgewood/Regent Square.
Cannondale Jekyll 3000/4000 from early 2000s.
Stock photo of the same bike is below.
Still 100% stock with Magura Louise brakes. Lefty fork has a Mendon cyclesmith sticker.
Guy took a chainsaw and some power tools but obviously the bike is what I’m bummed about losing. He must have looked insane riding the bike carrying these things in the cold yesterday. Feel free to message me if you see it cruising around.
Sorry — they just keep on coming, don’t they? I’ll add it to the Wiki.
“He must have looked insane riding the bike carrying these things in the cold yesterday.”
Well, he had some company. Let’s just say he looked either insane or dedicated, OK?
I don’t know, a chainsaw and power tools aren’t carried by most commuters. Although, I have been known to bungie a chain saw to my rack from time to time.
@db, it’s commuting WITHOUT a chainsaw and some power tools that’s insane. What if you encounter a downed tree?
I saw a man riding yesterday afternoon who was carrying a large object on the front of his bike under a black garbage bag, it could have been a chainsaw. He was on ninth street downtown, heading across the bridge to the Northside. He caught my attention because he was riding what appeared to be the Specialized bike that I reported stolen here in September, and because it was just a ridiculous sight in such cold weather. The owner of the Specialized bike tried to follow up on the Northside, but did not spot him.
this is my first post, unfortunately, but I’m glad to hear that this organization is so highly dedicated to reuniting bikes with their owners! My bike was stolen sometime last weekend when I was on vacation in D.C.. It probably still has the U-lock I ignorantly locked it to my rickety wooden porch with, because I could tell someone had removed a banister I hadn’t realized was loose when I came home to find it missing.
Stolen from the Garfield area, bordering East Liberty and Friendship, a 21-speed Bianchi Project 5 from the early 1990s, I believe it’s a 26″ frame. A black ordinary sized U-lock might still be locked on the crossbar. It also has a Bell brand bell on the right handlebar, and the pictured sticker was eventually stuck to the crossbar.
The photo was taken when I freshly owned the bike which was March of 2013, so the sticker will be toward the front of the crossbar just before the handlebars. The seat is also a bit ripped up on the back at this point. This bike was my only way to get around, and as a rather broke service employee, I am stunned and bummed. I really hope I can recover it, and I will never lock it to a wooden porch again if I get it back. :(
Bike sales and bikes coming in are down right now,,call all the bike shops up ask and give your info and look up on craigs list,,,,we bought only 5 bikes last 3 weeks most are antique ,,,,
This bike rolled into Thick today. We didn’t bite, but it seemed a little suspicious. Anyone looking for this bike?

Looks like a go for the Trek bike now up for sale,,glad to see its not a stolen bike,,,,,Anyways Bicycle Heaven presents Trains and Bicycles for tots,,,every kid will leave with a gift.date to determinded but will be prior to Christmas,If it snows that day I mite need some help if anyone is up for it.
Craig, maybe you should make a Bicycle Heaven news thread here — I think a lot of people don’t necessarily read this thread. It might be a good way to keep people informed of what’s going on at your shop. I know everybody’s very supportive, given all the help you’ve given us in getting bikes back.
(Of course maybe people will think that’s too commercial. I think it’s find so long as it’s for things like this and not just ads for the shop.)
Great idea – I looked for info on that Bicycle Heaven event and couldn’t find it. Please do!
Jonawebb I could do that if Bike PGH wants to make up a link of some kind but then I chek in most everyday here on the forum to look for info on stolen bikes things like that. I know I put in a plug of some kind its just in my blood to get our name out or about events we have.Let me tell you its a very fine line when you deal with used bikes and when you turn people in for stolen bikes,,, believe me i do my best ,I had to go to court many times because I caught people with bikes ,Since I get I.D. and info and video its a easy job for the police but it takes up much of my time .I pay out the money to get the stolen bike that way I can get the I.D. of the thieves that way the owner can get his bike back and off the jail the thief go’s. I am with out my money I paid but most of the time the owners understand and refund me.The big problem is that since I started working with the police and nabbing people our name is in with stolen bikes though we are not the thief and we did a great job helping the owners get the bike back we risk getting a bad name .I was just thinking last week to forget about helping everyone just look out for our shop and that’s it.I still feel very bad about the event with the Policeman and the guy Rich who got shot.I was able to get the I.D. for the Detectives that linked the address and we all know what happened when they went to get him.I am not the only bike shop that takes in used bikes but now I understand why they keep out of the media lol.I will do my best to find stolen bikes for people its the right thing to do but let me tell you its not easy and takes up a lot of time and lots of bull crap.
jonawebb,,I reread you post,,i see what you mean,,,,thanks
Bike stolen (sometime between Dec5th – Dec 6th) from my house’s front porch in Point Breeze.
It’s an old black Raleigh (maybe 70’s). 3-speed, Sturmey-Archer rear hub. Black bike rack (left side broken). U-lock. New-ish tires with white reflective sides to it. Bell. Front light. Back red light (under seat. It was an awesome seat).
(I know I know, I should not have left it on my porch for the past half year. I’m kicking myself for it and I’m heartbroken, so please no lectures…)
The classic “English racer.” Sorry for your loss — I’ve added it to the Wiki.
Got this off a FB feed from Nick D. at Banker Supply (no, it was not his bike, he was just sharing the report)
Stolen Bike Alert!
Recently my bicycle was stolen from the Giant Eagle Market District in Shadyside. It is a blue GIANT XL framed hybrid bicycle. Most notably it has purple handlebars and the spokes have very bright LED lights on them. It was stolen 12/6-12/7. Police report has been filed. If you have any info I would certainly appreciate it. Sorry for unclear photos. They are all I have on my phone at the moment.
Does anyone know this bike?
Nothing in the ad describes the bike pictured…it seems pretty clear that whoever is selling it doesn’t know what he’s selling.
My friend’s bike was stolen off his back porch between 12/11 to 12/14. He lives in Hazelwood so that general area would be a good place to keep an eye out. Bianchi Strada. Blue seat and dirty white handlebar tape. Send any info to firstname.lastname@example.org
Here is a photo:
