Black and Goldsprints – April 17th ’09 – Gooski’s
The next Black and Goldsprints event is coming up on April 17 ’09 at Gooski’s in Polish Hill. Start smoking now, consider it training for this genuinely Pittsburgh establishment.
What are Goldsprints? Head to head sprints on identical track bikes on rollers (with forkstands – no roller skills required). Totally fun, completely brutal. The longest 15 seconds of your life.
Open qualifying from 7-9pm, bracketed racing into the night until a winner is declared. $5 to race, free to watch.
More info at the revamped site:
By the way, Gooskis back room will be NO SMOKING during this event. Apparently a ton of people were calling Gooski’s asking about the air quality so they decided to take this initiative on their own. Freakin sweeeeet.
Huh. I was going to bring a box of cigars and encourage people to race with them clenched in their teeth.
at least give out cigars as prizes.
is jeff going to be there? he doesn’t post here so i guess i can talk all the smack i want on his slow legs.
you hear that jeff! i’m going to beat you by 2/100ths of a second this time, instead of 1/100th!
They cold still clench cigars int heir teeth – they just would ahve to be unlit.
Hope you read this ’cause I’m comin’ for ya’ Ian! Last time you got me by 1/10 of a second but this time I’m shaving all my body hair, wearing an aerodynamic helmet, and otherwise racing completely nude. And if that doesn’t work I’m gonna’ throw a stick (cleverly disquised as a cigar) in yer spokes!
Black and Gold Sprints Rock!!!
I can’t wait! This time instead of a sweater I will probably be business casual after a meeting. I love feeling out of place!
LET’S GET READY TO RUUUUUUMMMMBLE!
Friday April 17, Race 2 of 3 of the 2009 Iron City Bikes / Urban Velo Black and Goldsprints series to benefit the Iron City Bikes race team. This time at Gooski’s, 3117 Brereton in Polish Hill. 21+. Sorry kids, we promise to have all-ages friendly races later this year.
Latest word from Gooski’s: Due to popular demand, the back room where the racing will be held will be smoke-free for the evening.
were you trying to post a picture? if you don’t do it right, it makes it disappear
not to be confused with the 1968 black power gold metal in the 200m sprint. Though its just as classy!
whoa, that picture rules. i just read a book called “what’s my name fool?” about resistance in american sports that talked alot abou that. they only had one set of gloves, that’s why they have different fists raised. the other guy was french and wanted to stand in solidarity with them and is wearing a pin of the organization that they repped
