I’m a quiet guy. I don’t like to raise my voice, ever. But this morning a driver got the best of me.
E. Carson St. and 18th. I made the right turn toward the river, and happened to be following another car. He was talking on a cell phone. And eating a sandwich with the other hand. Usually I feel there’s not much I can do in this situation, but the golden opportunity arrived. His windows were down.
I sprinted for a block to catch up, blocked him at an intersection, and let it rip. WHAT THE HELL? YOU’RE DRIVING! AND TALKING ON A CELL PHONE! AND EATING A SANDWICH?! Oh he had this look on his face, like he just realized he could have run me over, it was precious.
And that’s why I have a smile on my face at work today.
I was coming down Negley from Highland Park (to the map party, actually) and a big SUV turning up Black Street opened the front door of the passenger side MID-TURN (while in motion) and dropped out a plastic soda bottle onto the street. I couldn’t help myself and yelled out “What the f*** is that!”
Moments later, by the abandoned Texaco station near Broad Street, I saw a guy (probably aged 15-20) drop one and then another piece of plastic from some sort of snack he was eating. I was going around 20 mph but pointed at him and yelled “Don’t litter! Don’t litter!” He turned after I had passed him, but I don’t know if he heard my Earth Day Eve message or just some guy on a bike hollering.
@Swalfoort: barely averted distributing my orange juice across my screen while reading your comment. Thanks – I needed a laugh this morning! (I should know better than to drink anything while reading on this board in general though.)
