I took the west end bridge, then Noblestown road to Walkers Mill. Grabbed the Panhandle trail from there into Bulger, switched to roads to bypass the unfinished section, then picked up the trail coming out of Burgettstown and took it all the way into WV (note if you’re riding the trail – the section in WV beyond the trailer-park/trailhead parking is neither useful (it dead-ends), nor fun to ride (very soft and slidy) ).
I found my way into Weirton, but took a wrong turn and found myself on 2 south. I knew there was a bridge a couple miles further along, but I didn’t know that it was open grate decking (what is it with Ohio and these?) Spent some time looking at Fort Steuben and some historical markers, get lunch, then headed home.
Took a detour on the way back to check out the new connector between the Montour and Panhandle trails.
Got back to the West End Bridge about 5:30, navigated the stadium traffic (including the corporate block party that had completely closed off the street that the Roberto Clemente bridge feeds into) and was home in Friendship by 6.
