so, i got one of these yuba’s and i think i love it. It’s being built up at Thick’s right now, but when i get it and get some riding in i’ll be sure to post pics and a review. Looks beautiful now and it’s not even all the way together
Ask Chris and Larry how much fun they had assembling it…..If it was anything like the one I built, it took two of us, a rubber mallet, a pry bar, a few beers and some cussing to get all the holes in te rack and frame to line up.
@eric the phone call to pick it up went a little something like “hey, your stupid bike is done, come get it the hell outta the shop, I don’t wanna look at it anymore.” (not really, but I’m sure that’s what they were thinking)
So, about me first-
I’m about 5’5″.
Not very strong.
Fairly new to bike commuting.
So, I took it round for a spin and it is amazing. I can’t feel the extra length or weight. I blocked the sidewalk to get it out of my apartment and two for-serious biker dudes said “that’s rad man”. best complement ever. I put some groceries in a small duffel type bag, and hooked it onto the back rack with those rock climbing hook things and couldn’t feel a difference. I also rode on the back, but only momentarily because not seeing where I was going made me nauseous, but that’s no fault of the bike’s. The rack makes an okay seat, but I’ll be creating something more cushy for mine. I’ve heard that parts that fall through the rack can get brushed up by the tire, not a problem for me, but not a good thing. Gotta take some turns wide, but it doesn’t seem to be a problem. The “wideloaders” on the bottom are no wider than a double basket/rack thing- http://www.rei.com/product/782408. I love the curved handle bars and the brakes stop on a dime.
Over all, extremely satisfied with the bike and would recommend.
