Ohio River Trail thru Sewickley & Ambridge

There will be a kickoff meeting for planning of the Ohio River Trail through Sewickley and Ambridge tonight (February 24) at 5 p.m. Tuesday at the Old Economy Village Visitor Center, 16th St, Ambridge. http://www.post-gazette.com/local/north/2015/02/20/Community-fund-backs-Ohio-River-Trail-Council-effort-to-extend-Ohio-River-Trail/stories/201502200036 "The Ohio River Trail Phase II will pass through Ambridge, Leetsdale, Edgeworth, Sewickley, and Glen Osborne, and terminate at the Beaver County Jail in Center." Much of the route would be on Beaver St, I believe.

The choice of specific streets is not finalized, and in fact that's a large part of what this project phase will work on. Paul is quite right about Beaver Street, though. FWIW: we "expect" that this will be how it works: Coming from Cory over the Sewickley Bridge, cyclists will make 3 right turns and then pass under the bridge. Chadwick St, Ferry St, turn left on Beaver. Pass through Sewickley and Leetsdale and enter Ambridge. There's open discussion about the route through Ambridge, but the route will cross the Ambridge Bridge. How to go from Ambridge Bridge to Aliquippa? The preferred option is to use the wide shoulder on 51South (the side away from the river) and install a jersey-barrier protected, paved bike lane up to Aliquippa. This is not a guaranteed option. In Aliquippa, the route departs 51via Kiehln St, Franklin Ave, Station Street to move to the river side of 51. Then it's a trail or utility road from Aliquippa to the Beaver County Jail in West Aliquippa. That's the endpoint of this planning phase.
