Does it have any other accessories (mirrors, blinkies, etc)? I saw an orange and blue Trek MTB this morning downtown but didn't know the model or see a red bandanna.
STOLEN TREK Y5 Mountain Bike
Friday the 13th or early Saturday morning my blue and orange beautiful Trek Y5 was stolen off my porch. I live on Craig Street in North Oakland. My best friend passed away in 2006, and as a gift his mother gave me his bike, this one. This bike has meant more to me than any other bike I have had. Please do me a favor and keep your eyes open. If the thief didn't take it off, there should be a red bandanna wrapped around the handlebar stem. Thank you so much. Ride on.
a y frame trek should be pretty easy to spot. there are not many of those left (they are from the 90s for people unfamiliar). looks like a walmart bike, but says trek on it:
how did you have it locked up? are you not able to store your bikes inside?
N other accessories, I take my lights and saddle bag off after I ride. I had it locked through the little triangle hole in the center of the frame (it is fully enclose), the front tire and the porch. I wish a could keep my bike indoors but the 4 flights of narrow stairs make it near impossible. Thank you for responding. *Pinky, where downtown did you see it?
It was locked on the bike rack at the Downtown Y by 5th and Market - but I can't say for sure if the frame looked like cburch's image above. I belong to the Y and am there every morning, so I'll keep my eyes open for it again.
There was one locked up outside the "O" in Oakland just now. Didn't have much orange on it, aside from the tires. Do you have a photo or something?
Here is the one I just saw:
Thanks for the picture and the lookout. My Trek has black handlebars and bar ends. Plus the rear was orange as well. Cburch's post has the picture of exactly what mine looks like. Thanks again Dwillen
Saw the one at the Y again today and I don't think it's your bike. It has a traditional MTB frame (without the "missing" piece) and is actually blue and orange. It also had a side mirror, frame bike bag, back rack, and speedometer.
Sorry to get your hopes up, but I'll still keep my eyes open for it.
I just saw a red and beige Y3 at the Carnegie Library in Oakland. A guy came out and unlocked it and I almost confronted him, but looking again at the description, I'm glad I didn't.
Did this bike have disc brakes by any chance. I may have just seen it. I confronted 2 kids at the trek store because they had my friends stolen helmet. The bike he was on was similar to that one there but had disc brakes and was spray painted black.
I'm pretty sure this is *not the same bike, but just in case:

haha, that bike has been for sale for like two years. There have been a few re: posts on craigslist pleading with the guy to stop posting the bike
There's a post on Craigslist selling "2 medium size" Trek bikes---no photos, and it's probably not it.....but I figured I'd throw up the link in case you want to contact the person: http://pittsburgh.craigslist.org/bik/1997665423.html
