Sweet street artwork?
Does anyone know what the deal is with the murals I've suddenly been seeing around the city? They're often dominated by red, black, and yellow. Some of them have people wearing bandanas, and there's one by the Hot Metal bridge (on the jail trail) with a huge flowery peace sign. There are more downtown and in the strip in random side-streets. Some of them have sardonic text about consumer culture.
Who does them, and are they new or did I just somehow only notice all of them just recently?
yeah, those are the Shepard Fairey murals. they are all legal, ie permission spots
but not legal as in original works of art. shepard fairey, the most successful plagiarist in modern memory...
here's another interesting critique from a sometimes poster on this messageboard:

Thanks for the link erok. Dude nailed it.
Apparently I've been under a rock for never having heard of this dude?

The Obama "Hope" poster made him a national figure. And I think he designed some of Lance Armstrong's paint jobs for the Giro.
That article is good Erok.
There was an article where he issued warnings to
"steeler baby" for saying "obey steeler baby"
but he made more money than any of us will ever see
off of his "hope" posters in which he stole the
graphic of Obama.
In my mind you can talk your way out of something
like that.

+1 (just read it. On the mark.)
