2 bikes stolen (Bloomfield)

Posting for a friend:

2 bicycles stolen last night, August 15, from outside our apt in bloomfield. we had them locked up with cable locks, which I found cut through next to where the bikes used to be. Two other bikes were also locked up nearby, but with U-locks and remained untouched. Whoever took the bikes left a tandem bike and bike cart behind as well, but they had also been locked with the cable lock and so were left just sitting, unsecured.

1st bike that was stolen is a white, green and purple Fila frame. I don't have further info on a description at this time.

2nd bike is a dark red Raleigh frame with black lettering. It's a 21-speed and it has a small black back rack with a black milk-crate tied to it. The tires are hyrbid (not fat mountain bike tires, not skinny road tires, something in between).

please contact me via PM, I'll forward the info to my friend. And yes, I'll make sure he knows how to lock up with a Ulock.

Small, small Pittsburgh; I was on the same email list this message originated from

Not sure why I never mentioned U-locks to them before

heh, I've known Miles since we were 3. He claims we met when we were 4, but we've agreed to disagree.

He's consented to posting his number, 412/ 508/ 24/ 11 (dashes and spaces are feeble attempt to prevent # from getting farmed & spam texted, because I don't really understand how that works but fear it). So any tips can go directly to him, it'll help things move faster.

Thank you guys in advance for any help you can give!

Hope they get these back.

Reminder:

DO NOT USE CABLE LOCKS

Speaking of, there is a guy at work who locks up with loop-ended cables around a pole hooked together by a ulock, with the ulock not through anything other than the end of the said cable. It is inside of the garage and there are cameras pointed at the exits, but not on on his bike. There are guards ouside sometimes. I think his bike is ok in the federal st garage, but I want to leave him a note with proper instructions on locking his bike up. I imagine he does this elsewhere.

@Stefb - If the U-lock goes through his back wheel, that would be a certain amount of protection. Still not optimum, but better than jsut a cable lock.

The ulock goes through nothing. Just holds the cables

so it's basically a big heavy expensive padlock. failburger

direct him to the thread where someone's bike was stolen from a downtown garage, in front of the security guard

My friend that lost the bikes is actually the person who first told me about Freeride, which led me to BPGH, which led me to believe I can go anywhere by bicycle. Those bikes are sentimental to them and pretty important transportation-wise. I really hope they get them back.
