20 Pittsburgh Bridges ride Sun. 12/13

You're invited: bike 20 Pittsburgh bridges in 50 miles. Start at Duck Hollow Sun 12/13 at 9am. Here's the planned route: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/11459207 This hits all of Pittsburgh's bridges that are legal for bikes on the three rivers between Rankin, McKees Rocks, and Highland Park with minimal duplication (we cross West End Bridge twice). There's one illegal crossing of RR tracks at Glenwood Bridge and there are some stairs to climb, in several places. Yale and I will be biking it. We're not real fast (maybe 7mph average counting stops). So we expect to finish around 3pm. If you want to go faster, go ahead. Glenwood Bridge Hot Metal Bridge Birmingham Bridge 10th St Bridge (Philip Murray Bridge) Liberty Bridge Smithfield St Bridge Fort Pitt Bridge West End Bridge McKees Rocks Bridge West End Bridge (again) Fort Duquesne Bridge 6th St Bridge (Roberto Clemente Bridge) 7th St Bridge (Andy Warhol Bridge) 9th St Bridge (Rachel Carson Bridge) 16th St Bridge (David McCullough Bridge) 31st St Bridge 40th St Bridge 62nd St Bridge (Senator Robert D. Fleming Bridge) Highland Park Bridge Rankin Bridge Homestead Grays Bridge

In the process of biking this, we realized there are two more bridges in this section that need to be biked: the two bridges to Herr's Island.

There is anothere very popular bridge (not over a river) you missed. :) From Elseworth to Highland through mall.

The ride took Yale and me 8 hours, with stops for tacos, photos, and phone calls. We saw a lot of the city. Pittsburgh has cool bridges! Our approximate route: Yale on 10th St Bridge:

Three years have passed, and a variant of our route was (independently) discovered and walked by some Duolingo employees. https://triblive.com/local/allegheny/14177964-74/duolingo-coworkers-cross-15-bridges-in-20-mile-ultimate-pittsburgh-nerd-hike As near as I can tell, the route they walked was: All 7 (legal) Mon bridges from Glenwood downstream, West End Bridge, all 7 Allegheny bridges up to 40th. 15 bridges in 26 miles. The route that Yale and I biked in 2015 and 2017 was: All 9 (legal) Mon bridges from Rankin downstream, West End, McKees Rocks, West End again, all 11 Allegheny bridges up to Highland Park, (including the 30th and Herr’s Island RR bridges; it sounds like the Duolingo folks missed these two). 22 bridges in 50 miles.

It's a little ways out, but i'd love to join in on this ride! Count me in, for now.

Don't be confused by the headline, cpollack. This is an old thread. The ride took place in 2015. No plans for a 2018 revival (yet).

Bah! I just saw recent activity and got excited. I rarely log on to this site anymore and mostly just check it. Either way, i've downloaded the .gpx and plan on doing it solo or announcing a ride. But thank you for the route either way.

Also noticed, so far, you didn't count Meadow St. bridge in Larimer. It doesn't cross water, just a valley. But a bridge nonetheless!

Today, I crossed many bridges and recorded video. I'll post a playlist once I get all videos processed and uploaded. I will upload more tomorrow.
