Nice! As soon as I'm better I'm definately stopping by
2010 Ladies/Transgendered Folks nights at Free Ride!
Happy spring everyone! We're back on our regular busy schedule again - check http://freeridepgh.org for hours. I just wanted to let ya'll know about some good stuff for the ladies coming up soon at Free Ride. For everyone else, there's tons of information on our website about Free Ride programs, hours, etc.
** OPEN SHOP! **
We will have open shop nights for women and transgendered folks ONLY, every 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month, from 6-10pm. Open shop is an opportunity for people to have access to our shop, tools, repair manuals, used parts, etc. I usually staff women's/trans night along with some other fun ladies. It's pretty chill and we emphasize figuring out repairs/problems together and making people feel more confident about wrenching, especially if they are very new to it. If you want to make repairs to your bike, or just want to wrench around and troubleshoot on one of our recycled bikes, then this is for you. We ask for a small donation for the use of our shop if you're not a Free Ride member. If you are interested in becoming a member, ask one of us or check our website for information.
Keep in mind that you will not be getting "class-style" instruction at women's/trans night. We are starting to offer mechanics classes for that purpose:
** MECHANICS CLASSES! **
We will be offering drop-in mechanics classes for ladies/trans folks, in addition to our schedule of adult basic mechanics classes. Caroline, who is an awesome mechanic and teacher will be the instructor.
Class info is here: http://freeridepgh.org/learn/adult-classes/drop-in-classes/
We have general adult mechanics classes too, which are for everyone.
If you have any questions, let me know.
Hey all, this is still true. We have women, trans, queer, and femme only shop time every second and fourth wednesday at Free Ride. (the next of which is this wednesday!)
Mechanics classes, the other wednesdays, are being taught by Alicia now.
For anyone interested in being even more involved, our next committee meeting will be May 9 at 7:30.
thanks for the update!
