Any suggestions on resmcyling my antiquated 2009 versions? Will the city take it?
Someone should do an art project with the old ones.
more info soon on the release party, changes, etc. feel free to stop on in and get one. they'll be appearing in shops in the next week or so.
we'll be looking for people to distro maps, etc also

I might frame mine.
I'm enjoying the hell out of mine. Thanks friends! Picked mine up this afternoon and met Lou!
David, have Amanda make a purse out of it. Or perhaps sew it into a pouch for your new map.
The new map is awesome, but for long term Pittsburgh cyclists it's not like the city moved around the streets or anything in the past year. Minor updates add up to big changes if you're still working with the first edition though.
I have 2009 and 2008 maps on my wall
Yeah, I still have the 2008 map on my wall. Time to update.
if anyone is in the oakland area and can't make it to the bike pgh headquarters, iron city has these already.
A "diff" would be awesome, for those of us who want to see the improvements the city has made to bike infrastructure over the past year.
Great map! I ran on down to Iron City this afternoon and picked it up (thanks IC guys for the advice on the u-lock, it's always intimidating going in someplace new with a bunch of stuff you have no knowledge on, so thanks for being welcoming).
I'm new to biking (well city biking) and this, along with the 101 pamphlet are great resources. Thanks everyone!
glad y'all like it.
These maps are one of my favorite 'burgh things to share with travelers passing through.

Hmmm, not quite a perfect conflict with the ACTC meeting. If I get there, it will be later. ACTC's over at 7:30.
where is the ACTC meeting. please tell me that you guys use the AC/DC logo for your logo
Gave one of my '09's to the neighbor who mentioned wondering where the trails went. Wife picked me up a '10 @ the Co-Op, sweeeeeeeet!

+1
ACTC general meetings are held at Port Authority's HQ, 345 Sixth Ave, in the 5th floor board room. Lou Fineberg from the Bike-Pgh staff is scheduled to be the guest speaker.
No such luck on the logo. Amazingly, I cannot find a copy online.
Here stu, i made this one for you guys
lou is planning on going to both as well
The maps are the great - nice design job!
Hey erok, Do you need more snacks for the open house/map release party? I was planning on attending and if needed I can bring a couple of pizzas with me.

well, we weren't planning on getting pizza, but if you brought it i'm sure it would get eaten!
Just received my premium waterproofed map. I must say I'm excited about having it just because of the increased tear-resistance. My other maps aren't even that old, but they're already worn out.
PS: I managed to acquire two 2009 maps and they are now stuck up on my wall side-by side so I can see the whole map in one place. It's great!
you can get two 2010 maps tonite!
Anyone heading to the map party tonight from Oakland, and want to ride over together? PM me.
i like pizza!!!!!!
yo i so have the fancy flat wall map from last year.
also erok, great photo.
there will be fancy flat maps tonite as well. bring a cardboard tube if you want an update
It was good old fun at the party last night. It was good to finally meet several of the Bike Pgh head honchos as well as a few regulars of these message boards. I was surprised by the turnout and how packed the place was, not to mention how there were bikes parked all over Doughboy Square.
If that's not testament to how little real estate parked bikes take up, I don't know what is...
I was ecstatic to get some glass bottled coke and my 2010 flat maps. Like I said Erok, I would be more than happy to distribute some maps on the college campuses if you figure out a viable way. I could do it guerrilla style if going through the hoops is not ideal.
Also, I think there should be a project where a few people build and mount some big signage for the HQ out front, people in stop-and-go traffic on Penn-Butler might notice.
All in all, it was a great time. I hope you guys get the great turnout in all your upcoming events!
All in all, it was a great time. +1
Thanks for putting together a great event!
My bad..... I got home after work & showered to go to the party, but it was still early (6pm) so I decided to take a nap and overslept... didn't wake up until 10pm
oh well
next time
+1 Impala26's comment about "how little real estate parked bikes take up". Did anyone get a good photo of all the bikes tied up around Doughboy Square? It was impressive! The bus driver of the 86B I was on was utterly amazed at how many bikes there were.
If someone does get a good count from photos or whatever, it would be interesting to estimate how long a string of on-street parking spaces, and/or how big a lot would be necessary, to warehouse that many cars.
Yeah, that little shindig was a blast, I was very glad I made it. Thanks for doing that!
curious if the new maps are the plastic/paper hybrid or something that i can write on with dry erease!
Just tried it out with a dry erase marker - no can do
i should have been more clear, i got one of the old ones and i knew it wasn't dry erase friendly... i hope you didn't mess it up! i think i'm going to get a flat one, cut it up, and laminate
You should make limited copies of a full-size flat map that's laminated. Charge for it, obviously, but I'm sure people like Mark and myself would find that very practical and useful. Attaching two maps together is a bit tedious, but if it has to be that way, then so be it.
I would second that you should make a limited run of one-sided poster size maps. people can laminate themselves if they so desire.
i don't mind the 2-sided ness... what i want is something i can draw on and then erase, instead of drawing on until there is too much crap on it (and its falling apart anyway) and then getting a new one.
that said a nice flat big map would be awesome (i used to have a pull down one in my room at a house i lived at, i used it for blinds, it was sweet)
