Hey, let's start talking about this!
Dan and I are resurrecting the long dead Rallycat of BikeFests past. We'll still hashing out (most) details, but the general idea is a long distance scavenger hunt with (hopefully) a raffle for anyone that finishes the ride[1]. I expect we'll run it on a Saturday. As usual, all entry fees will be donated to Bike PGH.

I put on alot of fundraising events for my husbands fraternity at Duquesne, and not once has the guy at fatheads ever turned me down. He always gives me a $50 gift card as long as we put his name somewhere. Latest event is a beer pong tournament with their gift card as the top prize, so the fatheads name is on the flyers for the event. I would def shoot him an email.

POOL TOUR RIDES AGAIN
I think the pool tour will end up being either on Sunday the 14th or Sat the 20th.
In 2006 I helped lead a ride doing the southern half of the dirty dozen. Maybe this year we can do the north?
Whiskey Rebellion Ride. Where we ride to South Park, drink some whiskey where the first shots were fired, and ride back.

turns out the first fired shots of the whiskey rebellion were at the Oliver Miller Homestead in South Park (about 15 miles from downtown), which is now a museum.

Flock of Cycles has a Flock Party that falls into Bikefest Week, and we will be hosting the Second Annual BikeFest LightFest Ride.
Thinking about a "I've got 28's and I'm Not Afraid to Use Them" road bike ride. It will incorporate suitable and not so suitable trails whilst riding skinny tires.
Thinking start on Mt. Washington->Riverview->Highland->Frick->Schenely. Maybe a stop for lunch. Finish some place like OTB.
that would be fun, i drive stef nuts with what i'm willing to ride my road bike on (with 23s no less) with 28s you could ride pretty much every trail in frick.
@Eric: shall actual skillz be required for suchlike trail activities, or merely the ability to roll in a more-or-less straight line?
I would recommend skillz. I'm completely incapable of avoiding singletrack regardless of the bicycle I'm astride.
I've been thinking about a multiday series of rides with the goal of rising through every neighborhood in Pittsburgh, Lincoln Place to Summer Hill, Fairywood to East Hills &c. I haven't thought through any routes yet.

I would show up for hills and whiskey. I've got some basil hayden and a flask that gets shamefully little use.
I want to maybe do the ride to a pirates game. It will for sure be warm enough now.
Stef, let me know if you want to do a "bike to the ballgame" event. I have been thinking about it.
Last year I toyed with the idea of a Staircase Ride. It didn't garner much interest, but I've spent the past year looking for combos of steps that actually get you someplace you might want to bike back from.
I was looking for short loops, do-able in an hour or so, usually up the steps and return on the street, rather than a marathon string-of-pearls steps tour. Start/end at a pleasant watering hole of some sort.
Here are six possibilities.
1. Starting at Federal & North on NSide (Crazy Mocha), L onto James, to end. Climb 3 sets of steps (about 200), then L onto Henderson. Nice descent to Federal, then back into the lower NSide, return to starting point.
2. ECarson at S.10th, cross bridge, cross 2nd Ave, climb steps to Duquesne U, loop around to Armstrong Tunnel, through tunnel, back across bridge to starting point.
3. Start at Klavon's Ice Cream in the Strip. Out to Herron, then climb &/or ride all the little pieces of Harding Way up to Blessing Street, then roll back down to the Strip.
4. Start at Pittsburgh Filmmakers (which has a small café, the last I knew). Denver Street to steps to (probably carry the bike over to) Bigelow, to Alpena Street steps, R Alpena, to Dakota, R Bryn Mawr, L Iowa, steps down to Centre, cross Centre, steps up to Iowa St, L Alequippa, R Centre, L Melwood, return to Pgh Filmmakers.
5. Start at the Frick mansion, Reynolds & Homewood. Edgerton to Dallas; cross Dallas; Edgerton sidewalk and various combinations of steps, short streets to Gettysburg & Reynolds. Return to start on Reynolds.
6. Start at the Penn Brewery on Troy Hill at Vinial. To Spring Garden Ave, up Tell Street steps to the Cowley Spray Park, Goettman St to Province St to Troy Hill Rd & return to start. (If you were on last summer's Swimsuit Ride, we climbed this staircase.)
I'm sure there are many others; there are 713 sets of steps and jumperwalks in the city.
@stu: A handful of years ago, there was a PGH Stairs alleycat.
As for the Edgerton sidewalk, that reminds me of another ride possibility: PGH's literary history. Annie Dillard frequented those steps in her younger days....
Also, re: the whiskey ride. Why not try to arrange a tour with these guys?
@bjanaszek My wife is working on this project and I know the contractor. I still think they are waiting for additional distillery equipment which I believe won't be installed until August so it may not be ready, but don't quote me on that.

Re: Wigle Whiskey, I'm including them on my Burgh Breweries bike tour in August, but it's not during Bikefest (8/6 and 8/20).
Eric at Wigle is very cool and happy to show off his space though. He can't offer samples yet due to laws they're in the process of changing.

we should do this DD ride, my goal is to ride it neutral with a smaller-than-the-real-dd group and showcase the hills for racer and non-racer types. I'm thinking just the Northern half ending with Suffolk. (so we can avoid all that Beechview BS) Lets find a day that doesn't have any conflicts with other fun rides we'd want to do. I'm not opposed to holding this on a weekday or weekday evening. People can bring lights.

@sarapgh2 - one of your Burgh Brewery Bike Tours would work for BikeFest since it's on 8/20 and BikFest goes till 8/21. Feel free to enter any and all information you have into the online form that's linked from the Call-Out and it can be incorporated into BikeFest.

An artist I know has launched a 2nd Whiskey Rebellion. He was in town last year doing archival research and, coincidentally, I brought him to last year's Bikefest party. He has a pretty great bottle design that says "Drink the liquid, smoke the label, recycle the glass." The labels are letterpress printed on hemp paper.

The Urbanista Girlcycle Gang is planning some rides too. We are thinking bakery tours, bikini pool rides, bike/yoga ride, bike/kayak ride, an all ladies mary poppins-style ride, a skirt ride that poses a danger to drivers by being distracting, maybe a super hero ride, an intro to riding on the street for ladies, etc...
