2015 Dirty Dozen

When you are my age these things take planning ahead... Found a workout on Trainer Road today that seems like really good DD prep; It is called Basin (I did Basin TC because I'm on my way to Finland and had to get a quick workout in before a week of not). It mostly consists of intervals that alternate between sitting and standing, with standing consisting of power ramps and sitting holding steady, starting at something like 85% FTP, ramp to 95%, ramp to 105%, ramp to 130%, and finally a ramp that ends the interval at 150%. The sitting steady periods are 45 s, the standing ramps last 30s. Each complete interval is about 5 min, which is a good length for a DD climb. The compressed version has 3 repeats covering 30 min with a few warmup surges in the beginning, the full version has 4 repeats with more recovery time between the intervals. I pretty well died at the peak of the 3rd one today.

Danny has posted his official summary of the 2014 Dirty Dozen. I can't get a full url out of his frames, but go to his main site and navigate to Dirty Dozen and then 2014 Results. He includes a wonderful shoutout to the scouting rides organized by Stef Burch and Jim Logan with a really touching description of Lori Paul's adventures, and a testament to her incredible grit, all written by Mike Masarik. I wholeheartedly affirm all of the sentiments of that letter -- the scouting group totally rocked (rocks) and Lori is seriously hard as nails.

Lori is totally awesome. I love to see people come to these rides and succeed because of them. Tough break for her the day of, but in my mind, she nailed it.

Wow I just read this string (Tardy to the Pardy!). Thank you SO MUCH for what you wrote about me, Neil and Steph. And what Mike wrote about me in the article made my eyes well up with tears. Thank you for all the love. Truth be told, I found my strength from the riders around me. YOU people.

^so glad to hear that! Does anyone know what time the bathrooms at the Point open? I was thinking about moving the start to some place with an open bathroom. The other idea was to move the rides to the other end of the jail trail where there is a parking lot and a bathroom for sure. Any ideas? I am also probably going to have the last ride start at the oval to make it more like the real thing. That is another option to start all rides. It makes for a lot more riding to get to the weeks that start south.

I believe the bathrooms at the Point open at 8. Except they don't because they don't really open until the staff (who starts at 8) comes in and cleans them. And they keep them locked until they've finished cleaning them. TL;DR: probably open at 0845, which is completely crazy to me.

Steph I think that sounds like a great idea to move the start to the other end of the Jail Trail where there's a bathroom. I'm lucky in that I work downtown and I always stop in to where I work to "release" the coffee I've drank prior to arrival (ha ha T.M.I!) I take the T down to town with my bike and that a loooong ride. I'm sure there are plenty of other folks who would appreciate having a place to go, prior to our disembarking! I like the idea of starting the last training ride from the Oval, too. The more realistic, the better! As always, THANK YOU and Jim Logan (and of course Danny and all of the others involved in this great event) for doing what you do! YOU ARE APPRECIATED!!!!

Stef, There are restrooms in the parking lot beside the bike rental operation. They're on the second floor. I don't remember them being locked any time I needed to use them. Also, my running group meets at the point right in front of the Wyndam sometimes and we all just use the bathrooms in the hotel. Never had a problem.
