22-yo Cranberry Commuter Killed; Arrangements & Ghost Bike Dedication

Obituary with details on visitation and funeral: https://www.devlinfuneralhome.com/obituaries/aleksander-richard-teimouri/?fbclid=IwAR2la94RJ5pvk_1XkrjJ0z9wmC3AYI8iR0kYMNhD4iXk6iwm8LyDkv6JYcg Family and friends will be received Wednesday, January 2, 2019 from 2-4, 6-8 at Devlin Funeral Home, 2678 Rochester Road. Cranberry Twp. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, January 3, 2019, at 10 am, at St. Ferdinand Parish, Cranberry Twp. Jim Logan has published a Ghost Bike Ride on Facebook The theme of the ride will be completing Alek's last commute home https://www.facebook.com/events/2273035592983510/2273085182978551/?notif_t=admin_plan_mall_activity¬if_id=1546218932590133 For those not on FB: Sunday, January 6, 2019 at 12:30 PM – 1:45 PM Graham Park, Cranberry Township, Butler County, Pennsylvania WPXI interview featuring the cyclist's mother: https://www.wpxi.com/news/top-stories/man-cycling-home-from-work-allegedly-struck-killed-by-drunk-driver/895757273?fbclid=IwAR0-eitkRozz6d0jbNv2E54-LI0Z79h6nVdKoLvSiGAsSpjz4gJF11iB2f8 This is by all accounts a fine young person, 22 years old, just completed pre-Med at Pitt, considering joining the Air Force on a rescue medic squad. Worked at MadMex, closing on the evening shift Dec.26th. Overtaken from behind and run over by an apparently drunk driver just a half-mile from turning off the main road into his housing development. Deceased on impact, but they kept him on life support until organs could be matched and donated, as was his wish. From Paul, in another thread: https://www.post-gazette.com/news/crime-courts/2018/12/29/aleksander-teimouri-drunk-driving-fatal-bicycle-accident-david-lohr-cranberry-butler-county/stories/201812290055 From Colleen, in another thread: http://www.cranberryeagle.com/article/20181227/CRAN0101/181229915?fbclid=IwAR3KAUEglB0EqOKJCWv0AsTVPJy6c8w550Ar926imzEIMuMSY9GBFYdG4DA So: Visitation is Wednesday, Funeral is Thursday, Memorial Ride is Saturday 1230. We'll have much more robust details as Saturday approaches. This is an easy place to drive to from Pittsburgh. 579N or 79 north, take Route19 north for a bit.

Is anyone interested in carpooling to this?  Or alternately, how far a ride is it from town?

I’m a lot closer than most, and I’m an hour on two wheels from Liberty Ave. Even for me, this is most of an hour ride, much of it unpleasant high speed suburbia. One good carpooling possibility is the McCandless park & ride (formerly Rave Cinema, before that Showcase Cinema), at the north end of the 12 McKnight bus route, but note that that’s an hour bus ride all by itself. A second is the Ross park & ride just off the Perrysville exit of 279, a half hour on the 8 bus, then another 20-30 minutes by car. I will likely go, and will likely drive. I might be able to carry one bike besides my own and might be able to swing through the North Side first. PM me if interested.

I was planning to get to North Park Skating Rink. Per Jim Logan's e-mail:
For groups looking to meet and ride in, North Park and Sewickley may be good gathering points. Western Pennsylvania Wheelmen are organizing a no-drop ride from the ice rink in North Park at 11 AM
It's about 15 miles from Pittsburgh downtown to North Park and about another 10-11 miles to the planned ride start. So in total it's going to be about 55-60 miles if riding from downtown and back. https://ridewithgps.com/events/71463-16th-street-bridge-to-np-and-then-to-gp#routes/29114637/preview Taking into account that Memorial Ride ia 12:45pm-1:45pm, there are about 2 hours 30 minutes of day light for the way back. In theory it's enough if nothing is giung to go wrong but lights are higly recommended in any case.

@Stu, What time would being at Ross Park and Ride work? I do not drive, but I can bike to the park an ride locater across Perrysville Ave. from the Ross Port Authority garage and others can possibly join me there. The furthest north I've ever been on Perry Hwy. was to Sandle Ave. Would this route be a good way? From Millvale:

That's a decent way, Z. But if it comes to it, I can swing around to meet you at any point that works. I deliver my food rescue around 10 a.m. on the North Side, so could easily meet you in Millvale.

Top. This is tomorrow/Sunday. I will be on the North Side (Northview Heights) around 10:30-11:00, so can pick up one maybe two other bikes, anywhere between Federal/North and Millvale, or points north. Message me here, Fb or Tw, if interested.

Man Accused Of Hitting And Killing Bicyclist Heading To Trial, Criminal Homicide Charge Dropped https://pittsburgh.cbslocal.com/2019/01/25/man-accused-of-hitting-and-killing-bicyclist-heading-to-trial-criminal-homicide-charge-dropped/ CRANBERRY TOWNSHIP (KDKA) — The man accused of hitting and killing a bicyclist in Cranberry Township last month appeared in court Friday morning where the criminal homicide charges against him were dropped. However, 51-year-old David Lohr will be heading to trial on the other charges he is facing, including homicide by vehicle while DUI, reckless driving and driving under the influence. “He admitted it, so we have a lot,” Terri Schultz, of the Butler County District Attorney’s office, said. “I think we have all of the other charges that obviously were more appropriate. I mean, at this point, did he have the intent? There’s still a lot of questions about that, so I can understand why the judge did that.”

Sadly, the family of Aleksander Teimouri has suffered another tragedy. Nicholas David DeBiase, 16, son of Craig and Christina (Fleis/Teimouri) DeBiase (and Aleksander's half-brother), died unexpectedly. If you can take the time for the visitation tomorrow, Saturday 12/4, from 10:30 am until 12:30 pm at Devlin Funeral Home of Cranberry, 2678 Rochester Road, Cranberry Twp. I am sure the family would appreciate it. Christina in particular was really buoyed up by the bike community's support after Aleksander was killed and I know this would mean a lot.
