I thought he was a jerk. Waving down a cab is not an invitation for an assault - even a minor, good-natured one.
I did like how he had to adjust his "package" after going down the stairs at about 2:30.

When did people start hailing cabs by standing there with their arms outstretched, begging? That's just advertising for someone else to go stand upstream of you and steal your cab. They must be tourists.

There are a lot of cabs if you're on a bike, but never enough if you want one at rush hour in the rain
Arm up seemed to be standard procedure for people to get cabs when I was in New York. It's also a good sign to WATCH YOUR BACK because a cabbie will run you over to get a fare.
