whoops, and by "place to stay" i obviously meant a place IN PITTSBURGH.
a place to stay?
hey pittsburgh cyclist people! my boyfriend and i are doing the C&O/GAP ride from DC to pittsburgh and are looking for a cheap, centrally located place to stay (that's obviously bikeable) for saturday afternoon through sunday morning, 10/1 - 10/2. does anyone have any suggestions? i know about couchsurfing and airbnb, but wanted to make sure no stones were left unturned! thanks! - sarah
in Pgh, 'centrally located' is a little tricky (we do distinct neighborhoods, so it depends what 'hood you're most interested in), and 'cheap' is relative (if you're looking for a hostel, I don't even think we have one. cheap hotels are all outside the city, but there are affordable ones in the city, depending on your budget).
When family comes to town, they usually stay in Oakland (when they don't stay with us). Wyndham has a big hotel right in Oakland, and you can get most places from there. Look for places labeled "near University of Pittsburgh". That's probably "central" or at least on major bus lines that will take you wherever. Near the museums and biking distance from most interesting stuff. But as they do a lot of volume, they may be priced out of "cheap" for you.
edited to clarify - when MY family comes to town... other families may vary
I'm going to be out of town that weekend, so my bedroom is vacant. I'm in Shadyside near Alder and Highland. Queen bed with brand new (last week) microfiber sheeeeeets. Basement for bike storage. I'd have to check with my roommates but it shouldn't be a problem. If that works for you, send me a PM. I have couchsurfing references here: http://www.couchsurfing.org/people/joeframbach/
Just an FYI y'all. there is something called
"warm showers" which is a bike touring centric
couch surfing. It is cool. I have hosted a lot
of international people... im gone that
weekend though sorry.
