awe! such a nice bike!
Is this a larger than usual amount of bikes being dumped by theives? Or is this the annual fall "meh, it's cold now, I'll steal another in spring" dump? Or do two data points not make a pattern?
While riding in this morning I saw on the east side of boundary Street just south of crossing the tracks a Del Sol LXi 2.0 (http://www.minitrailbikes.com/images/products/Haro/Haro%20LXI%202.0%20Lady%202004.jpg) lying in the weeds.
Could not doing anything about it until now. Bike looked clean and fully functional.

Don't mean to hijack the thread but since it's the same topic...
There has been some kind of cheapo Murray cruiser locked to the stop sign at Bingham St. and 10th street (right behind the Cogos on Carson) for about a month now. It appears to not have been moved for quite awhile and is there at all times of day or night that I ride by, which is pretty much everyday as that section of road is part of my commute to/from work. Has anyone seen this bike or know who owns it? This would be a perfect starter bike for my wife and I would be willing to take it off the owners hands in exchange for some cash if their only plans for it are to either to let it turn into a pile of rust or let it get kicked to shit by late night drunksters. I plan to leave a note on it saying as much, but if there is no response does anyone know what the legal/ethical ramifications would be if I just came and removed it? I hate to see a perfectly rideable bike turn to a perfect pile of shit because of neglect.
Hopefully they see your note and take you up on it. Maybe they are not planning to ride it during the cold weather and that's where they keep their bike. While it may seem ethical to save the bike from the elements I think it would still be illegal to take someone's property, so that's your judgement call.
I have observed prefectly good bicycles turn into piles of rust frequently on college campuses.
When I rode home on Wednesday, the bike was gone in the afternoon. I hope it was dealt with responsibly.
there are two abandoned bikes at AIP, one that had the back tire stolen ages ago, and it's been locked up to the rack with no rear tire for over a year. It's in the way.
The other is on 1st ave, about 50 ft away from the school's bike racks, and over the past 3 months, I've been watching parts go missing. Right now it is just a frame, and maybe pedals. First the seat, the the front tire, back tire, handlebars, etc.
