Accident on Greenfield Ave (Hill) this morning 8:00 AM

Riding down Greenfield hill, ambulance and 2 police vehicles at Swinburne Bridge where it meets Greenfield. Bike looked okay, officer said there were injuries but that rider would recover. Hope all is well would like to know if vehicle is involved as I ride this route daily.

I ride that way too. It would have been earlier than I go by though. It's easy to believe an accident could happen there. You have traffic from the bridge on the right, uphill traffic turning left, downhill turning right. Easy to get hooked one way or the other. I'm always cautious, avoid assumptions that drivers see me.

Agreed. I'm always on edge at that intersection, no matter which direction I approach from. I don't see a ton of opportunity to quickly & easily improve it, although IIRC there was some related talk as part of the Junction Hollow project.

Not trying to be rude but, I am not sure why that is a dangerous pass. You are to the right, the vehicle is going faster than the speed limit (a guess), but crosses the center line and looks to give you well over 4 feet. This happens on Greenfield most mornings to me, I am fine with it (even if I am going over 30mph). I guess I am just trying to figure out the issue. His turn was so far ahead there was no danger of a right hook. To me it is an aggressive, but competent driver.

One tip, @zzwergel.  I love having a handlebar mirror. You are moving your head a lot to look to the side, but with a handlebar mirror you can quickly glance down to see behind you and just as quickly back up and on the road.  I know with me that when I turn around to look to the side I have a tendency to also steer that direction. So not only does the mirror allow me to quickly see behind me but it also keeps my path straighter.

@deezus57, The blind curve in Greenfield Ave. right after the intersection. If another car/bike was heading in the other direction, someone could have died in a collision. I think @stu should see this.

I agree with @deezus, he’s inconsiderate and impatient but competent. He did give you a full lane pass and got way ahead of you before pulling in. No horn, no engine revving, not endangering oncoming traffic, and most assuredly not a thread-the-needle pass.

What about the blind curve?

I'd say that curve is too gentle to be considered a blind curve. It takes about 300 feet to make a 90 degree turn, so anyone on the curve can see pretty far ahead. In any case, the car was back in his original lane well before he got to it.

Agreed. With one note -- not overly aggressive. I would be very happy if all drivers act like this one.

It was the speed that frightened  me. Off topic, but related. Yesterday, I took Carnegie St. from Stanton Ave. to 55th St. since I didn't want to deal with more headache. A white truck was right behind me the whole way. I rode between 12 and 15 MPH while stopping completely at every stop sign. I thought this might be a way to teach people to respect these side streets. There was no altercation at the end either.
