Adult learn to ride classes?

My wife has never learned to ride a bike and is a little anxious about learning (me teaching is a non-starter for several reasons). When we lived back in DC some (one?) of the shops were doing adult learning to ride classes. Anyone know of someone around here doing adult classes?

Thanks,

i was wondering if there would be a market for that here in pittsburgh.

i feel like i have the experience to teach a class. i've even thought about how to go about it. i just didn't think anyone would want to learn. was there a fee for the class in d.c.? i was gonna make it a seasonal biz...

One possible way to start would be through a CCAC continuing education class.

tim, if you're serious about it, we might be able to help make it a reality. let's talk about it

I am not sure I am qualified to teach but I have a tamdem bike perhaps that would help. I would think that if there is not a balance problem (inner ear, vertigo, ...) fear of falling might be what holds an adult back from learning. If the student were to be on the back of a tandem they could gain confidence while being partially responsible to balance the bike and keep it going in the right direction.

Tim, definitely connect with Erok. We get a few inquiries every summer about adult bike riding classes.

What do you think of the tandem idea? (see erlier post) I would be willing to help if needed

I went through the LAB certification process a few years back, and they were pretty concerned about shielding the ECIs from liability in the event that the heirs of someone's late student should decide to sue the ECI for teaching people to ride "out there in the road where they could get hit!"

The League indemnified their ECIs, contingent on paying the regular renewal fee and not deviating one tittle from the prescribed curriculum.

I ultimately broke with the LAB (for political reasons which I won't go into here), but I would be open to talking about classes for BikePgh or VO.
