Bicyclist hit on Walnut St this morning? 9/2

Just heard on our local NPR that a cyclist was hit this morning on Walnut Street in Shadyside!!! -Any one knows any more than that?? Info?? Ugh.... The problem of knowing so many cyclists, is that you worry and every time one hears news like this :(

I rode by there around 9:30 and didn't see anything.

I can't say whether this is a good thing or a bad thing, but I appreciate that bicycle accidents seem to be reported on WESA as a matter of routine. And I'm hoping that car drivers subliminally translate it into better bicycle awareness...

s/accidents/crashes/ I never seem to hear any follow up on these reports, like the one at Penn & ELB a week or two ago. I guess it's good because you'd certainly hear if someone was dead, but it would still be nice to know what happened and whether the person is OK.

Searched websites for both papers and all three major tv stations, saw not a word about any cyclists getting hit, on Walnut or elsewhere. But I can pretty confidently state that any rumour you may have heard of Sidney Crosby getting arrested is false. (Also, KDKA's comment section makes the PG look tame. Remove 9/10 of the content, add 9 times as much racism, sexism, and homophobia...)

What I did see on my commute through Shadyside that morning was a LOT if moving trucks. S. Highland has 2-way stops through there and sight lines are frequently obstructed by parked cars, which is why I always do a foot-down stop when crossing it. It seems likely that an unfamiliar driver or cyclist could get into trouble there. Be careful, everyone!

True about the 2-way stops, but I every cross street of Walnut (except for Denniston at the very end) has a stop sign or traffic light, which is why I almost always take Walnut on bike or foot. There is definitely a light at Walnut and Highland. (to be pedantic, the alleys may not have stop signs but traffic from the alley has to stop by law... although I wonder how many drivers know that and/or care.)

Ah, you're right, there's a light at that intersection, my bad. I try to avoid it - it's backtracking slightly for my route, it's pretty busy, and it has mediocre sight lines (parked cars plus the roads bend near there). Howe is a much nicer crossing.
